Additonal Info:
Rockstar has unveiled some new tidbits regarding the multiplayer portion of its forthcoming crime romp, Grand Theft Auto IV.
As expected, both Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch modes will be included in the game, and can be tweaked with by whoever may be hosting a particular game. Players will be able to change the number of players on any given team; for example, one player may wish to face off against 15 others.
You can also manipulate a variety of other options, including the number of law enforcement officers present, pedestrians, weapon types and traffic conditions. Also present will be a blip system allowing you to view enemies on the move, which can be turned on or off at the users discretion.
The company also confirmed the introduction of two co-operative modes. Cops ‘n’ Crooks splits players into two teams, with one side tasked with the job of escorting a boss character from A to B. Gamers will be able to claim a cash prize (for in-game use) depending on the difficulty and number of players involved.
Next up, Hangman’s Noose presents you with a series of mini-challenges, each one detailed in a cut-scene before the game starts. Tasks involved here could include anything from protecting an individual while evading a SWAT team, or escaping the wrath of a police helicopter.
A little Light was also shed on the GTA Race mode, which simply requires gamers to reach the finishing line as quickly as possible ahead of your rivals. Furthermore, the entire game world is ripe for the picking, giving you the opportunity to take advantage of weapons and other items in order to gain the upper hand over your fellow racers.
Car aficionados will be taken with the more realistic GT mode, allowing players to chose from a variety of machines, including Infernos, Turismos, Comets and Supercars.
Rockstar’s Jeronimo Barrera commented: "After players earn the cell phone in the single-player game (which takes about five minutes), if they want they can jump online and never even play the single-player again.”
"Online is a serious time sucker. You're going to have to be really careful if you're married."
GTA IV hits shelves on April 29 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

i think that deathmatch/teamdeathmatch along with cops n' crooks will be the most played modes. psn server is going to overload and hopefully f.ukbox live will fry :)
Sweet. Free multiplayer is the main reason I'm getting this on the PS3 over the Xbox360. Hangman's noose sounds intriguing.
@ Fraznez "hopefully f.ukbox live will fry" LOL
I was kinda hoping they would include some co-op missions where I could go and pick up my buddy on the other side of town, drive to rob a bank, rob it, then have to run and hide from the cops. Hopefully they will include something like that. It looks to be a good time either way.
I hope that the free mode online let you play the entire city with all your pals like Burnout paradise, because i fear that they divide the map in districts like Skate did.
I'll probably be one of the people that gets the mobile and then never plays on the single player again. I've never been a big fan of GTA games, i'm only really getting the game for the hype and the online...
talk about old news...i read this in PLAY a week ago...
Can't wait. Oh dear I'm married so this might be a tight situtation with my wife.
PSN: DarkJ3JB

@ProfSebastian - yeah man i was thinking the same, but i honestly dont mind..
"Furthermore, the entire game world is ripe for the picking" hopefully this means a full online city.. i'm pretty sure it is but hopefully Mark H can clarify this..
"which can be turned on or off at the users' discretion." Come on, basic grammar!
Great, I really cant wait to play this game. Although I wont be playing the Online until I get into the Single-player first. But these game modes sound really good. I hope Sony gets ready for a PSN overload =-]
I have already put in vacation days @ work for the 29th and 30th. I am also married and will probably be getting a divorse in a month or two after the game is released(since I won't be spending time with her)LOL....SERIOUSLY..LOL @Carl, u really shouldn't buy a game just for the Online portion of the game, since this is Rockstar's first attempt at an online mode(I Think)
PSN ID: Silencer_87... I can't wait for this game. Its gonna be wicked.
I look forward to playing Gingo online.
Hey im marrired, my wife is gonna hate this! LOL
So much control, we can finally do battles where the host can control the number of people per team, and we don't have to fight the little kids!
LOL this was at IGN about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Nothing less, still is good info to remember.

From computerandvideogames.com:
" Starting off in the lobby menu, you can access the character customisation menu by pressing Triangle. From here you can switch between different player heads, torsos, legs, hats and glasses, and choose the sex of your character.
From the start there are only three or four different selections to choose for each option, but we're told more options unlock as you progress through the single-player campaign."
I can see a "I Completed GTA IV 100%" T-Shirt being unlocked for multiplayer !! lol
i hands are shaking for this game
