A $299 PS3 - with a catch

Posted on December 7th, 2007 at 04:27 EDT

The holidays are getting closer and Sony is pulling out all the tricks to try to sell as many PS3's as possible.

Now, they are reducing the price of the PlayStation 3 to USD 299. Well, not exactly. The PS3 is still officially USD 399, but if you sign up for Sony's Sony Card you get USD 100 credit when you purchase a PS3. Not to mention, you get 12 months of no interest.

The deal seems like a rather good one if you can get your card paid off within the 12 months. Otherwise you could be looking at paying a whopping 14.49% interest on your card.

You can sign up for the Sony Card here.

Sweet deal!  Just make sure you pay it off before the promotion ends otherwise you will be paying a lot more than you should be.

I can see people getting caught in the 14.49% interest trap

@Ryoma

How is that risky? Just make sure you have your card payed off, you can have at least half the money stored up before you buy the card.

that's easy, too bad I already have one. Not to mention I don't need a credit card. It's not like it would be hard to pay back $300 over 12 months.

If it is hard to pay back $300 dollars in one year then gamers are in a worse state of affairs than I imagined. No wonder there was so much hate at the $600 price tag... people cannot seem to save up $300 much less twice that amount.

@ryoma

How is paying a 300 loan back in 12 months ($25 per month) risky?  Just wait until your have a mortgage or rent in your life!!!!!

psn id: gingo... that is insane interest to be adding on but if people can get the loan paid back in time then it is a fantastic deal

Double edged sword but I it can be used right.

14.49 is really not that bad considering most interest rates are normally 21 percent or higher. Sad thing is you need a credit card to even establish credit, so you might as well start off with a lower interest setup like this one. Like someone said earlier, wait until you need to buy a house or car. Sometimes, no credit can be just as bad as bad credit. Ahhh, to be an adult with a high beacon. Life's good...

Sweet deal, there is no way you can go wrong with no interest for 12 months. I wish i can get those for all my credit cards. For all those young ones out there, if you cant get this card just ask mom or dad to apply and u pay them back. I honestly think this is a steal and there should be no question why no one can get a ps3 now

Let's have some more credit!  I considered opening a Sony card for the new MP3 player since I already got my PS3, but I resisted.  Don't need another card right now.

And how much is the card establishment fee and anual subscription charge?

$49 per year and the fine print says you have to hold the card until 20January 2009 so you are only getting a $2 discount. ----Cheap snake oils salesman tricks - good one Sony you F ukheads - not everyone is stupid and cant read the application form. Total Jip - What a bunch of tools.
