BIA: Hell's Highway 'Realism' trailerDuring the Web 2.0 Summit last week, Activision's Chairman and CEO, Robert Kotick, stated that he believes the PlayStation 3 is the most advanced gaming platform available.
During his presentation, Kotick took questions from the audience, one inquiry leading him to talk about the PlayStation 3 and how developers are building for its hardware.
"[The] PlayStation 3 is the most advanced gaming platform, but very few game developers are building products that take full advantage of the console's powerful, multicore processor," he said.
He then went on to state that it will gradually change over the next four or five years.
With Activision being one of the gaming industries largest publishers, it's good to hear that they have strong confidence in the PS3's hardware and understand that it may take developers a while to fully harness the power of the machine.

Of course the PS3 is
I really hope Sony keeps putting emphasis on developing tools to help the 3rd party devs get some good game out.
damn ps3...so strong the 3rd time taking over other consoles...lol
damn ps3...so strong the 3rd time taking over other consoles...and thats the reason i got one.
Um, wait....when do we get news we don't know is true? The PS3 IS the system...next up, world domination?
psn id: gingo.... please dont tell me anyone thought the xbox 360 was more powerful than the ps3 because that is just being a complete fool
I've always had a subtle respect for Activision. I can't wait to see what they have in store for the PS3
lol and will do ok no doom and gloom. and if you thought games based on a movie would be good you were lacking brain cells...it rarelly is any good exceptions being a game like Kotor and thats the only one i can think of....
Sure the confidence is there, unfortunately not everyone share that. :/ Its still good that publishers like activision cans see that for all the advancements the PS3 has it also gives equal rewards.
for sure!
Good to see someone looking forward to working on projects then to just cast them aside and blame the "difficulty" in the system.
"He then went on to state that it will gradually change over the next four or five years."
totally gay, I dont want a change in 4-5 years, I want a change now, b4 I sell my PS3 alrdy... ppl keep saying its the best, but I still dont see it..
And no Im not a XBOX fanboy, Im all for sony actually, Im just getting fed up with the lack of support and games and crappy ports, and developers not taking full advantage of the PS3 b/c its "too much work"
It's nice for folks to state the obvious, I guess.....
frigg the next 4-5 years, how bout in the next year
most advanced gaming platform....gradually change over the next 4 or 5 years....telling us stuff we already know....
@markwesker and joeyjoejoeshababadoo16
You gottta think how long did it take dev's even the 1st party ones to fully harness the power of the PS2??? 5 to 6 yrs??? Well them saying 4 to 5 is actually quicker. The PS3 is a complex system and very powerful so it will take time for dev's to fully understand it. Also I think just as long as Sony keep's helping them then they will get it done sooner.
The more time Game developers take to work on the ps3 games the more they will unleash the true power of the monsterus PLAYSTATION 3.... PS3 shale rule the gaming industry!!!
oh... by the way.... Xbox 360 SUCKS
I think thats why microsoft may consider putting a hd-dvd drive in their upcoming console or xbox360 to expand its life. Since devs are going to complain about needing more space around 2009 i bet.
mmm... Xbox, Dreamcast, Jaguar, N64 were all the "most advanced platforms" of their generations... so what?
^^^ A 360 or Wii fan boy would say something like that.
Wow, didn't expect this out of Activision.
Activision is bringing Spiderman freind or foe to the 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, PC and DS but not the PS3? Don't matter anyway as IGN scored it a 4.9. Funny enough IGN gave every version a 4.9 and each versions are supposedly rated by different members eg. The Wii version rated by IGN nintendo, 360 version rated by IGN Microsoft. Something tells me IGN didn't play all versions as they couldn't be bothered and gave the 4.9 from one version to all ther other versions.
And sony suppose was begging for 3rd party support huh?? I mean what dev wouldnt be excited about pushing new technology to the limit?? I guess only the lazy ones who want to make a quick buck huh. PS3s time will soon come
NYFAN-how would u know its a complex system oh wait i forgot u worked n designed the ps3 for sony haha not.your just quoting facts from other souces n not saying wot u feel, n everone else feels.this is fact tho and that is people don`t buy a console to wait 5years for a good game, just not gonna happen mate plus its not on.devs arnt thick n can make great games now like resistance, unreal, final fantasy,mgs4 so thats prove u don`t need 4 or 5 years to get a good game just need more devs working on ps3 n no xbox bk handers to game companies.
call me crazy but ps3 shuld have been helping these devs a long time ago I mean they shuld have known. sense its such a complex and powerful system devs would need help from the company that built the dam thing. seems to me Sony planned to say, "here this is the most advanced gaming console built yet. figure it out." makes no sense
While what he'ssaying can totally be filed under "DUH!" the problem here is his estimate puts it well into the year 2010 before we get some serious gaming. That's not exceptable. We need developers to get interested sooner or GAMERS will lose interest.
Didn't everyone know this over a year ago, prior to launch? Kind of redundant to say this now, or at all for that matter.
