According to
PS3fanboy, a Wal-Mart outlet in Birmingham, Alabama has broken the street date on the 40GB PlayStatyion 3 consoles.
Apparently the store stocked the shelves with their early shipment of PS3's and began displaying them for purchase on October 30th, 3 days before the official release date.
No word from Sony yet, but as tradition goes, we may see more stores follow suit. Stay tuned for more information.

things are looking up for Sony!
That just means more consoles sold!
Thats strange.. In Europe its been able to buy the 40 GB edition for a long time. One thing that EU could before US ;-)
Oopsie! That's cool that they're out.
There's no mention if they sold out of them?
Hehe, who cares? Honestly, why would you even bother to write this up PSU?
psn id: gingo.... oh no 3 days early what a disaster *sarcasm* at least it was only 3 days retailers have been known to break street dates much longer than that
Hopefully they are off the shelves by tomorrow. Now that would be some great news.
I live in Kentucky, and they also were on the shelves here with the release of Spiderman 3.
ha....Alabama....crazy sons o bltches.......I find it funny this happened in Alabama tho...wait, nevermind....it's Alabama.....
not like it was the FIRST PS3 coming out...THEN that would be exciting
((laughing)) Trust me I live in South Alabama and this doesn't surprise me at all it happened here. We tend to make our own rules down south. States Rights! PS3, it's in the box!!!
Oh you will see this everywhere but you have to look hard. Frye's does this sort of thing as well. ;)
lol, I have family there. I wonder if they picked it up.
I think it shows that theres going to be a mad rush to get one of these.
Not one person seemed interested in the 40GB version after I said it had no BC. I still think it was a bad move to lose BC and keep WiFi.
I think they could have at least made two 40GBs, one with BC and one with WiFi, and let the consumer choose.
