Alone in the Dark Producer Nour Polloni has expressed how Atari wishes to re-establish the venerable series as the premier title in the Survival Horror genre, by way of incorporating impressive visuals and a unique tension-building experience.
Speaking in a recent interview, Polloni expounded on the inclusion of real world rules in the game, and how the player is able to experience a unique outcome based on each particular situation. As such, Polloni believes that this will make the game all the more exciting for players.
In terms of visuals, the team were able to acquire GPS satellite data allowing them to produce a detailed map of the Central Park area in New York City, boosting an accuracy of 50c. Polloni also described how the developers were able to use real time lighting to create a moody atmosphere for game’s many environments.
Whereas Resident Evil and Silent Hill rely on jump tactics and psychological elements, respectively, to convey fear, Alone in the Dark aims to focus on creating an uneasy feeling of tension in the player, by fear of what may happen at any time.
Alone in the Dark is due out on multiple consoles later this year; stay tuned for further information as it becomes available.

So they're tryin' the same old, same old?Sorry i know alot of ppl want this game real bad. It's just that i can't get so excited about this,as much as i am for all the OTHER awesome titles we're getting.
Alone in the Dark never had the horror crown in the first place, and never will... lol
Alone in the Dark can never be the King
"Whereas Resident Evil and Silent Hill rely on jump tactics and psychological elements, respectively, to convey fear, Alone in the Dark aims to focus on creating an uneasy feeling of tension in the player, by fear of what may happen at any time."
Silent Hill was the founder of the "fear of what may happen at any time" Konami made the world foggy for the sole reason of creating tension. Trust me, I was 13 when I played Silent Hill 2 for the first time and it really had me stressed out the entire time. I'm looking forward to Alone in the Dark, but come on... at least think about what you're saying before you write it.
Alone in the Dark was the first horror title before Resident Evil and Silent Hill, but those two are still far more deserving of the crown.
I WILL be getting this
Only 1 game is stopping that from ever happening: Resident Evil 5!!! Nuff' said!
This is a definite getter. Put a check mark by this one....
well i hope the history is good id it yes i think i got here a "Masterpiece"
As far as being a horror game or not, I think AItD falls squarely between Resident Evil and Silent Hill. I think Fatal Frame games are just a notch above Silent Hill. RE is an action series now, so it barely passes as horror. AItD has a bit of both, but is mainly genericly scary. Silent Hill isn't really aimed at being horror, but more of a psychological adventure into darkness- makes you want to kill yourself. Fatal Frame is all about scaring the everloving crap out of you.
I'm not even going to read about this game. I just wanted to say that I never thought Alone in the Dark had the horror crown in the first place.
psn id: gingo... those tech demos of the game look really good so hopefully that gets transferred into gameplay so it is an intense game like silent hill
We'll see
Ok, let's set the record straight, Alone in the Dark did hold the horror crown in the early 90's. I'm betting most of you are too young to appreciate such classic works as the original of this series but it was one of the most frightening games of that decade. Heavily influenced by the works of H. P. Lovecraft including creatures from the Cthulhu Mythos created an atmosphere that truly distilled fear in the player. AITD pioneered survival horror, either give the game homage or let it rest in peace. IMO
Had thought about getting this game but I'm not sure about survival-horror games.
I remember that "alone in the dark" on ps1 was one of the best, and the only one to tinker with the flashlight. Now the new generation will be very good. And have something innovative, as the ps1.It may not be the best of horror, but it certainly is a big game.
