Borderlands, the upcoming Science Fiction shooter from Gearbox Software, has been pushed back to an early 2009 release, publisher Take-Two Interactive has revealed.
Originally scheduled to appear during the 2008 Christmas holiday season, Take-Two announced that the title has been postponed in order "to allow additional development time for this highly anticipated game and provide a better balance in the release of Take-Two's triple-A titles."
Due for release on the PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360, Borderlands fuses FPS-based gameplay with RPG elements, allowing players to chose between three different character, each with their own set of unique attributes and back story. The game itself centres on the discovery of a distant planet, Pandora, said to contain a copious supply of valuable minerals up for the taking.
However, upon arriving, colonists soon discover that the planet is devoid of riches, save for the remnants of an unknown alien civilisation. Seven years pass, and a race of alien creatures awake from hibernation, throwing the land into chaos; the only hope of survival is said to reside in a mysterious vault, which lays dormant in the side of a vast mountain range.

Damn hate seeing delays, guys is it me or this next gen titles always delayed, Why do they promise in the first place!. Last gen games were delayed but not so many and so often
This title does look interesting, and yeah dj, it seems like delays are the norm this gen. Hopefully this game will be worth the wait.

didn't look that good to begin with, maybe this delay could improve it.
O.k., I had not even heard of this game until, but it's just another shooter, and the PS3 is already having 3 exclusive shooters this year (Haze, Resistance 2, Killzone 2) and another shooter would just be too much. I'm guessing that the game was "really" delayed because the big PS3 exclusive shooters (Killzone 2 and Resistance 2) are coming out late 2008, plus there's Gears of War 2 for the Xbox 360. I think that Take Two just pushed back the game because of the competition from the other highly anticipated shooters.

What other AAA title does Take Two have coming out besides GTA IV? Sounds like a good game but why would they push it back 6 months before its previous planned release date.
