Brand new Resistance 2 details

Posted on June 14th, 2008 at 06:26 EDT

Dying to hear new details on Insomniac's epic PS3 exclusive Resistance 2? Here is a list of the latest facts from Insomniac's Ted Price, Chad Dezern, Drew Murray and Jake Biegel.

Details:
- Single-player campain focuses on Nathan Hale and not just the Chimera invasion but his own "internal issues"
- Hale has 19 hours to live (Price suggests that it's not Hale predicting it)
- The biggest boss in the game is about 300 feet tall
- Sentinels are ally soldiers that are immune to the virus, but have side affects due to immunity
- Boss called "Leviathan" (looks like the Cloverfield creature or Godzilla)
- One of the cities later in the game will be an altered 1950s Chicago
- The Grims are a melee enemy that attacks in hordes
- Chicago will be near the end of the game
- Opening of the game picks up exactly where Resistance: Fall of Man ends
- First level takes place in Iceland
- One of the locations in the Coop campaign takes place in Scotia, near the Redwoods
- There will be a lot of story crossover between single-player campaign and coop campaign
- Multiplayer maps are specifically designed for multiplayer
- Chimera will be in multiplayer, just not shown in current build
- New creature called the Chameleon will cloak and appear only when close, attacks are one hit kills
- Cloven are involved in the war against the Chimera, but won't be in the U.S.
- For weapons...the Auger is back, however Insomniac has trashed the XR-005 Hailstorm
- Resistance 2 will have a two weapon system instead of carrying every weapon in the game
- Singe-player will have at least one vehicle
- No vehicles in multiplayer
- Cpt. Rachel Parker will not return in Resistance 2

So for now that's all, however be sure to check out some of the latest screenshots of Resistance 2 gameplay here. Stay tuned to PSU.com for more information.

No vehicles :(

Well, it still sounds and looks epic :)

I always thought the Cloverfield monster looked like a resistance chimera

I hope for more then one vehicle in campaign, it would be odd to only have one vehicle in campaign not to mention a downgrade to the game.

yaaaaaay!!! you can only carry two weapons, I hated that about the first game because it felt like they were just doing another ratchet and clank style game

Looking forward to this game, but isn't your list taken from this site?

YES.

Resistance 2 = everything I love about FPS! No vehicles in multiplayer means no nubs spamming it up in the tanks.

And @ bnolan56, I always thought the same. Cloverfield monster stole the idea from Resistance.

And 300 feet tall monster? This game is going to be ridiculously epic. I hope they get a good soundtrack to have the whole works.

A 2 weapon system? Good! I was tired of carrying every weapon, and then shifting through it was a pain.

Why is it that everytime I see something new about Resistance 2 it looks like Halo and CoD  combined? And YES that is a BAD thing. Every game does not need to be a Halo or a CoD. Wish games would go back to making Arcady Fast paced Skill shooters.

psn id: gingo.... nice to see they are using things from their other big franchise (rachet and clank) anyone who has played it will immediately recognise "Leviathan"..... pity abut no vehicles in multi but i suppose tht would ruin the aspect of staying in small squads

@ KadeYuy: I hope you aren't so ignorant to say that this is just Halo+CoD.  If you really think that, there is no point in explaining it all to you.

Nice list for anyone who didn't watch the GT video yesterday.

@ bnolan56 thats funny because that was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw cloverfield lol. This game is gonna rock. I wasn't so impressed with the graphics but the multiplayer and cool bosses more than make up for it.

@ InfernoReaper

Maybe your the ignorant one, if your looking at the same footage and me and going "OMFG AWESOME TO THE MAX!!!!"

Just these two things should send big red flags:

- Less accurate when aiming

- Can only hold 2 guns

I'm saying I want Resistance I don't want Resistance + Halo+ CoD4.

@ KadeYuy: You still arent making a whole lot of sense. Are you saying that its a Halo/CoD clone simply because you can only carry two weapons? I perfer it this way. This game has a much more serious tone to it, and with that comes a need for realism. The 2 weapon limit not only lends to realism, but also adds a layer of challenge and decision-making to the game. You have to decide whether or not you will need this gun later on, and whether youre willing to give up a weapon you already have for it. So its simply a more immersive system.

@ KadeYuy: I'm certainly not doing that.  I haven't even bought RFOM so I'm pretty sure I'm not a raving fanboy.  It just amazes me that so many people jump straight to Halo when they compare shooters with aliens.  Like you said, "Every game does not need to be a Halo" and I agree.  But as Halo and CoD both have winning formulas, it doesn't surprise me that Insomniac is taking a few tips from them.  If they had stim packs, would you consider it a rip-off of Haze?
