Publisher Activision is set to introduce a new marketing initiative for its critically acclaimed title, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, following news from Chart Track that the shooter has become the biggest selling game on PlayStation 3.
The company announced this week that the title would receive new online promotions in The Sun, SkySports, FHM, Kerrang and MSN Network, in addition to revealing the opportunity for gamers to compete in a Boot Camp event, where fans can compete for prizes and test out brand new multiplayer maps.
David Tyler, Managing Director for Activision, commented, “Call of Duty is now one of the largest video game franchises worldwide, and this has been achieved by combining a truly groundbreaking game with creative marketing campaigns that reach out to casual gamers as well as to core FPS players.”
“A whole programme of Call of Duty 4 related activities are in place for spring and summer,” added Tyler.
“The Boot Camp event and refreshed marketing campaign are two examples of our ongoing commitment to this astonishing game.”
New downloadable content for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game is planned for release at the beginning of April.

BRING IT ON BABY!!! G36c BAM BAM in your face all day!!!!
and you would think the best selling game would be resistance.... lol
Im not buying any content for this game until they fix it , the patch that we dont have is not here , the patch we have doesnt work , and they want to sell us content for a broken game " SCREW YOU " they should be giving us money back until the game is fixed!!!! but nice to see dev,s looking to inprove the game but they must fix it first...
"this has been achieved by combining a truly groundbreaking game with creative marketing campaigns", I don't think I saw a commercial for this game until I had already beaten it. They can think what they want. If you ask me they only sold so many because it already WAS one of the largest franchises in the world. This game didn't put them there, they were there already. All these other COD4 "activities" are great, but not for me. Just give me the downloadable content and keep banning the cheaters.
any descent fps fan should have this one, just for cod4 i'll be willing to pay for downloadable content, personaly i havn't experienced to many problems with the game online or offline
nice... but it be really kewl if they would add golden skins to all there guns in this upcoming patch...
has COD4 sold over a million on the ps3?
psn id: gingo... excellent news as this is one if not THE game of 2007 so i'm looking forward to the DLC
please let the updates be free and many and good
Yaaay! more teamkilling lol
Until I hear news that the online for CoD4 is fixed I won't pick it up.
I'm getting tired of this game because i just hear news everyday and nothing is coming out.
I'm not really suprised, the online play is really addictive, it'll be much better when we get the patch through.
Man, fix the game and prevent the bricking of PS3s before you begin your marketing campaign. I'm tired to seeing all these boxes end up in our shop with the SAME PROBLEM!
Even though on some nights it plays more like Caka Dookie 4.....I can't get enough of this game. I more than welcome DLC for this. Silenced G36c FTW!!
"I'm not really suprised, the online play is really addictive, it'll be much better when we get the patch through."
Well if you live in the Southern Hemisphere the online sucks hardcore.
first off motorstorm has sold more copies because it was including in ohhhh roughly 1/2 of every ps3 sold. people didn't go out and buy that game nearly on the level they did COD4. As for issues...omg this game is terrible online. While it is very very addictive and fun gameplay the fact that I finish maybe....maybe 2 out of every 10 rooms i play is horrible. until they fix the game quiting when the host leaves and fix the terrible terrible lag (mostly due to letting toothless europeans on) this game doesn't need dlc...it needs patches. in fact the other night my clan played for 2 1/2 hours and actually finished only 1 map!!!! all because people kept quiting because they were getting beat. i know alot of people experience this issue too......especially clans that play. honest question but does anyone here finish 1/2 the rooms they join? why do people quit? it is only a video game and they do realize that just because they die online doesn't mean they will die in real life. you aren't going to get a girlfriend if your a level 55 gold cross and your girlfriend also isn't going to leave you if you get owned on a map so why is it everyone quits when my clan plays a room? granted i don't lose very often but i have never quit a map because someone was better or i was losing. all the more reason to come back and beat them.
anyways just a little rant...but until the mics get fixed, the lag, and the host quiting and shutting down rooms gets fixed i could give a rats behind about dlc.
I just got Call of Duty 4 yesterday and I've been playing it non stop online ever since. What issues? I haven't seen one, and I've played so many matches and I've played for hours straight. :S
Well, I didn't know that Call of Duty 4 is now the best selling game on the PS3 because like other people that posted, I thought that Motorstorm and Resistance were the 2 best selling PS3 game titles. I can't believe that Call of Duty 4 has possibly surpassed those games in sales. If Call of Duty 4 was such a success on the PS3, I just know that Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 are going to be even a bigger bang. I didn't buy Call of Duty 4 because the campaign was too short. I don't play Online, so there really wasn't a reason for me to buy it if the campaign is short. I'll probably get Call of Duty 4 when it's $29.99 or something. It's just amazing to me how FPS games and just shooters in general have become so popular. I want to see more action/adventure games... any developer can make a shooter.
davun g your comments on "toothless europeans" were a little short sighted the same analogy could be used for americans vis a vis "fat a55 americans" who do nothing but hurl abuse down their mics... put that in ur burger and eat it...
Nice to hear the sells are great on the PS3 version, but the 360 version still outsold it
I live in aus and i love the online i have noticed the hsot leaving thing abit BUT I CANT EVEN WORK OUT HOW TO HOST A PUBLIC GAME i know thta may make me look like an idoit but its mainly becyase i cant be bothered when i could be just enjoying a match by joining a random one and i dont relly like hosting the much since its easier to just join some one else game i only realy host in a game when its the only way to get a map i like especially in war craft WHERE EVERY ONES A DOTA FREAK (dota= ...ek) but its anoying haveing to deal with leavers in your game and knowing that if something gos wrong your going to dissapoint about 10 other players by dcing them have some conpassion for hosts they have lives too and have to exit some time
PS americans CANNOT say a thing about the rest of the world AND IF YOU THINK THAT YOUR COUNTRY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT SOULD BE ALLOWED TO PLAY THEN YOUR THE ONES WHO DESERVE TO BE EXCLUDED also yes fps in genrel is getting old start making the games again that made ps2 popular which are the adventure games that did not rely on online back in the days when online was a privlage was teh days when people made real games all the games i play these days seem so empty even the old games wiht bad graphics no speical features they were just fun mabye since they werent trying to beat any one they were just displaying their own creativty I think mabye the gaming industry has become to customizable every one wants them to make what they want well think about it this way a painter dosent ask the entire world for their opioion on what he sould paint he lets it come from inside so everything can fit to gether perfectly the whole world has their own differant shaped peices of the puzzel when put together they barely fit and every one just sees what they have already thought of but when they put thier own induviual peices of the puzzel together then they can look at every one elses and see things they never imagined
I am still constantly get the "downloading settings" for hours on end even after the newest software update. And then, once in a while (to make it all the more frustrating) it works fine the whole time I play it! I have even had my cable modem replaced and everything.
@marronthered-please don't think all Americans are fat or think poorly of Europeans! Mostly just the people who have never even been outside their home state, let alone Europe!
p.s. GO GUNNERS!!!
