Moving away from cliché World War 2 story types of the past, developer Infinity Ward brings players a fresh new experience in the modern world of terrorism and nuclear warfare. For those of you who are still stuck playing Resistance Fall of Man, with nothing else available to help make your PS3 shine, look no further - Call of Duty 4 offers everything and more with its photo realistic graphics to its thrilling multiplayer gameplay.
To start things off, let’s talk about the single player. In Call of Duty 4, players will traverse across many different countries playing as two different soldiers. The game begins with Sgt. John "Soap" MacTavish, and a young Capt. Price boarding a barge from helicopter during a storm on the sea. This part of the story plays as prologue, 15 years before the general events of the game take place.
What’s great about this opening level (entitled “Crew Expendable”) is it helps the player get fully immersed in the action. After you collect the target data, the ship is hit with a missile and it’s a race to the top before the water gushing in entraps you and your squad. The tilting camera as the ship sinks and soundtrack alone get your blood pumping.
After the prologue, players move to present day, taking control of U.S. Marine, Sgt. Paul Jackson. Shipped to the Middle East, Sgt. Jackson must find and terminate a terrorist group lead by a man named Imran Zakhaev. What’s so bad about this guy you say? Well the fact that he has nuclear missiles and is leading a revolt to return Russia to its former self as the Soviet Union, kind of makes him a little on the unpopular side.
As you progress through the first Act one of the more appealing levels has to be “The Bog”. Taking place at night, players will have the primary objective to save a crew of an Abrams tank stranded in the desert. What’s unique about The Bog is that this is the first level you utilize night vision as well as lock on rockets. Also, it was one of the first levels to show off Call of Duty 4’s A.I. Players will notice that not only will enemies take cover and throw grenades, but they will flank you, deploying units from multiple angles using cover fire to engage you and your fellow troops.
At the end of Act I, Sgt. Jackson finds himself caught in a nuclear explosion. After extracting fellow commutates, terrorists detonate a nuclear bomb in the center of the Middle Eastern capital, wiping out all entering U.S. forces as well as the escape helicopter Sgt. Jackson is aboard. Surviving the crash, you crawl out onto the desolate terrain only to die moments later for radiation poisoning.
Once Act I is over, players jump in the shoes of Sgt. John "Soap" MacTavish, seen earlier in the prologue. Teamed up with Captain Price, players move from the Middle East to areas in and outside of Russia. Everything from stealth sniper action to Rambo style demolition missions follow, eventually leading to a cool slow-motion matrix style shoot out with the ultimate nemesis you’ve been tracking throughout the whole game.
When looking at mission types, Call of Duty 4 offers a wide range of different objectives that you and your squad must accomplish, some very linear and some offering multiple paths to your checkpoints. Things you may encounter include everything from defending specific locations to rescuing and escorting VIP members to safe extraction points.
For example, in “All Gillied Up”, you must sneak your way into an encampment using the grass cover of your gilly suit. Once in position, you use your sniper rifle to assassinate a lead terrorist, only to be followed by waves of enemy troops and attack dogs. After you make it through the surging enemy forces you and your teammate must run to the extraction point where your helicopter is waiting.
All together the single player campaign should keep you occupied for at least 8-9 hours, if not ... (continued on next page)

unbelievable game love it (1st post)why do psu take forever 2 release their reviews?
wow defintely a blockbuster hit. overall I give a 9.5 as well a must have in any PS3 library. Multiplayer keeps me up all night!!
best fps ever. / i think it might take them longer cuz they actually play thru the game b4 reviewing it
I loved this FPS its the best one I have played on a console in a long time. Save Red Faction and Killzone
Great game but way too short and for that reason I give it a 9.
Awesome Game, 10/10 easy but this review, no offence, is bad - You have given away major plot turns and twists, I want a review not a step by step guide to what goes on in each level. Anyone who has not played this has just had the game ruined
In general all across the board, this game is going to be a big hit through this year.
ive got cod1 cod2 cod3 and cod4, albeit 3 of the 4 are on pc and cod4 is a blast, best game ever on pc.
theee BEST GAME EVER!!!

leeman99...looks the same to me, as does assassins creed. This is getting annoying, I thought the Cell was supposed to be able to have better physics, it looks like it is compensating for the RSX and keeping up with the Xenon, but will it pull ahead?
This game is a perfect Ten, I bought alot of other games but haven't played them yet cause i can't put it down.
um i dont know wat u guys r smokin but i only give this game a 8.0 mayb 7.5 the online is intense but boring after a while and all you do is run around in the same levels it seems like theres only 4 levels in the game id rather play WARHAWK
How does this reviewer get stuff so wrong? He says the prologue mission "crew expendable" was set 15 years before the events of the regular missions. That is not true. The only mission set 15 years in the past is the "ghillie suit" mission in which you play as a young Leftenant Price.
YO this game is wack, they LIED
They said it will have RUMBLE installed in the GAME, THAT IS BULLSH**
i have a rumble sixaxis, it works will all PS3 games, and UNCHARTED. This game does not support RUMBLE. STOP LYING or make it rumble in a patch today, or your A PHONY, a big fat PHONY!!!!
looks like a great game
I'm gonna buy this game too. Is it Modern Warefare or Warfare?
yep no question the best FPS shooter i have ever played, and they are kidna all i play so i have alot to compare it to. the only problem i have with the game is that since i got it i have not been gettin much sleep :)
great game...nuff said
still havent played this one.
might just grab it for a few weeks whrough gamefly.
I don't like the fact that I can't choose in which lobby enter. For example italian lobby, german lobby english lobby...as it was for socom 3!
ANYWAYS GREAT GREAT GAME IT'S REALLY KEEPING ME GLUED TO MY PS3!
why does psu take forever to rate games
I dont understand why this looks like crap on standerd tv it has to because those screens look amazing compared to what iam playing...
My review is better lol!
And yes this game looks awful in SD...
Terrible game...I can't say i EVER thought I would play a tactical squad shooter again where you have to stand in the middle of a doorway to throw in a flashbang rather than stand against the wall and blind throw it in (a la rainbow six)...plus the whole "no cover system" and the fact that you can watch yoru squad shoot the hinges off a door and kick it in but you barely make a dent in it...
All in all, a terrible game...looks pretty but plays ike something from the N64 era...
Incredible game, only problem is that the single player is too short, but online playing makes up for it! 10/10
I'm a big fan of RFoM and now I have another big fps to play on my ps3. to compare them both? yeah, I admit that CoD4 is better! the only thing is, I played both in SD! but still, the games look good! anyway, this is a must have and simply the best FPS ever eventhough it's quite short! looking forward for CoD5
Brilliant, brilliant game. Terrible, terrible review. Plot spoilers and incorrect info on some other plot points.

bought the ps3 for this....best 500.00 bucks ever spent
This game exceeds well past any FPS game I have ever played for a television console. I have the game for PS3 and I must say that it is never on the shelf with all the other games because I am always playing it. The strong point of this game is the multiplayer. It has a great split screen mode with many maps and weapon classesn to choose from; but the true strength is the online play. If you have the game for XBox but you don't have Live, this game is worth spending money to play online. With all the unlockable features and the multiple game modes; Call of Duty 4 is one of the best online multiplayer games I have ever played. The single player campaign is short and sweet but the multiplayer is where the games strength is.
erice blattberg is the MAN JUSTIN PINTER AINT GOT NOTHIN ON MA MAN BLATTBERG...BLATTGERG YOU FU*KIN ROCK!!!
This game is freakin awsome......i heard dat the 360 version got all the better stuff tho.....WTF i thought the ps3 was gonna have better graphics....
to all the ppl here wit 360 get the F**k out of hea
Not only is this the best shooter game I ever played, this is easily the best game on the ps3 by far, if you are an onliner! Even the single player doesn't seem too bad, although I rarely played any single player as all the action is online! This game is a must for all ps3 owners. I give it a 9.5! I was an original Socom junkie from the ps2, and call of duty has me back into it the way the 1st socom hooked me before all the cheatin started! I luv the perks, and I like the fact that you can watch your death from the perspective of your killer, so hangin in 1 spot too long is tough to do unless you aint killin no one! Great game!
