Ceramic White DS3 impressions

Posted on November 13th, 2007 at 04:28 EDT

The long awaited Ceramic white DualShock 3 controller has just hit the Japanese market. Taking advantage of both technologies, DualShock and Sixaxis, this ivory baby is the PlayStation 3 gamers dream toy. Keeping us who are not lucky enough to grasp the joy, two gamers wrote Kotaku bragging about their experiences thus far.

Writer Ritchie had this to say:

It certainly feels a lot more heftier than the sixaxis and apart from that and the dual shock 3 text, it's exactly the same. I have no idea how it handles, since my ps3 is in for repairs but at least the white looks snazzy.

Kotakuite Bellamy added comments as well:

I got a friend of mine to dig out his old DS2, and we placed the cable on top of the DS2 and tested the weight - the DS3 is heavier than a DS2+cable. We didn't have a scale, so we don't know the exact weight, but it seems like Sony took the whiners message to heart! "Don't think the Sixaxis weighs enough do you? Take this! We added lead weights for good measure!" Likely, it's just a heavier battery plus a more sensitive rumble system (it feels like it has more levels than the DS2s light or heavy settings) that adds all the weight, but still, it's a massive change over the Sixaxis.

Well that is absolutely comforting to hear but many would say that the DualShock 3 should have been a PS3 launch product during last year’s release. Either way, it is great to see that Sony has answered their consumer’s demands.

a very nice looking controller. the black buttons and sticks provide an aesthetically pleasing contrast to the overall whiteness. @ #2... DS3 > DS2 in terms of weight. 6 axis › DS3 in terms of battery life.

Wow, really very little information about the controller there lol. Plus, who would have thought adding rumble motors would make it heavier? :O

I want a DS3 though. I don't particularly miss rumble, but my sixaxis was dropped on carpeted concrete and although I managed to fix it, the L2 is now stupidly sensitive (I can make Kratos draw his bow by blowing on the button :P) so if I'm gonna replace it, may as well be with a sexy white DS3. Plus then I'll have a black controller and white controller living in harmony. Equality!

Not true.. the Sixaxis is just as it should be and I have three of and love them. I will buy a 4th controller and it will be a dualshock.. but it will not be my primary controller and I really do hope they will keep the original PS3 controller around as it is my favorite.

People who say the DS3 should have been in the PS3 box from launch are moron who dont realize Sony COULDN'T pur it in the box because of the lawsuit that almost made it impossible to even have DS2s in the PS2 box.

I'm eager to see what the controller is like though, I find it hard to beleive it's heavier than the DS2.
