PC gamers seem to be constantly complaining about the recently released Crysis, which runs on the Cry Engine 2. Apparently few machines can run the game at the highest settings. Well console owners can let them know, "you should have bought a console."
An interview with Crytek’s Engine Business Manager, Harald Seeley, revealed that the company expects the console versions to “look like they’re running at high settings, or nearly high settings, on a PC.”
"Yes, we definitely tailor the engine specifically to each platform. More than just the difference in CPU and video hardware capabilities of PCs and consoles is at play here. So are the much smaller memory budgets we must work with, the lack of a hard disk on some models, and the acceptance requirements of the hardware vendors themselves. All have an effect on how we approach each version of the engine.
"The surprising thing has been how well the consoles can perform visually, once this tailoring is in place. We expect the final outcome will result in games that look like they’re running at high settings, or nearly high settings, on a PC. Actually, we found it as much or more challenging to address the memory limitations of the consoles when converting our current AI system, as we did while converting our rendering engine or physics system, which was not something you might have expected at the start."
When asked specifically about developing for the PlayStation 3, the company took the approach Epic Games took with Unreal Tournament III, claiming it would be a challenge but the company would be better off in the end. He claims that working out the kinks and nuances in this first go around will allow for better gaming experiences provided exclusively by the PlayStation 3 console.
"Well there is no doubt that porting our engine to the PlayStation 3 is the more challenging of our two ongoing conversion projects, but that works to our advantage in the end. We feel certain we have the ability to get the most that is possible out of that platform, and therefore PS3 games which run on our engine in the future will definitely stand significantly apart from other games that don’t."

Sounds good to me, I bought a PS3 so I wouldn't have to keep upgrading a gaming PC. :-)
That sounds awesome. Crysis appearing on the PS3 is just another reason why the PS3 is the superior console. All of the current 3rd party game titles have yet to even draw out the PS3's true potential and a game developed exclusively on the Playstation 3 first will always look better than a Xbox 360 version. I hope Crysis will come out in 2009 for the PS3 and if it does, it will easily be the PS3's most anticipated shooter for that year.
I want to see Crytek push the PS3 to a new limit and separate the Playstation 3 from the Xbox 360 completely because it's just a matter of time before a developer unleashes the PS3's true potential.
good news good news indeed ^
im ready to see it running on a console soon i hope
PC's right now are the worst platform for gaming. They have to many lil operations and programms running in the back ground. And that hampers their ability to properly run games.
We can all wait for Crysis. But I think what Insomniac Games is cooking up with Resistance 2 will be better than Crysis. Maybe not in terms with graphics. Who knows? But im sure story and gameplay will be better than Crysis. Don't get me wrong I do want Crysis on PS3. But Resistance 2 will come out soon and will probabley give Crytek's shooter a run for it's money.
I agree Lp47PS3. They were focused heavily on the graphics with crysis. Resistance 2 will have a bad a$s story and good graphics to boot.
if it comes out as good as they say without the framrate drops, im sold
Great news! Bring on Crisis!
I love how they changed their stance from 'never on consoles' to 'it's a challenge but we can do it.' I have alot of respect for them because of what they are doing.
@AclayPS3
I wouldn't be so quick to beat that drum.

It is either they are converting two games for the PS3 or one for the PS3 and one for the wii...... Ok I am just kidding.
On a serious note it looks like the 360 is getting a port as well.
ha ha crysis can't push it's limit game just good graphic and good gamplay but R2 and KZ2 are cook crysis ( there is too many annoying engines) unreal engine and square enix's crystal engine and crytek engine and and and too many boohooo. ( just kidding he he)
Its about time someone spoke sense !
Why are you all mentioning crysis ? .. i know there is a good possibility that it'll come out, and it is a alright game (a little meh) but i think that you should focus on the 100 percent officially announced far cry 2 which is the game they are currently making for consoles.. and pc.
finally! a good game that's FIRST made for ps3, THEN ported to 360...! (or at least I got the impression that they were going both ps3 and 360...)
All i gotta say is,R.I.P. Unreal Engine 3.
p.s. why does this comment writer thing take so damn long to load?
I hope thats true I can't wait. It as a fun game on the PC but the day I bought it I could tell it would be better on a console
PSN: DarkJ3JB
Bullsh!t. Max output of consoles is 1080p. PCs can put out much more than that.
let's wait and see
