Exclusive 360 GTA IV content not so exclusive?

Posted on January 28th, 2008 at 09:03 EDT

Microsoft's exclusive deal for Grand Theft Auto IV downloadable content might not be so exclusive after all; with rumours circulating that content will be available to download for PS3.

Microsoft allegedly paid upwards of USD 50 million for the exclusive rights for the hugely anticipated GTA debut on PS3, but it appears that the exclusive content will be restricted to two longetivity-friendly downloadable game chapters.

Although these two chapters will be available only on Xbox 360 through the Xbox Live Marketplace, all other downloadable content related to the title will be available for the PlayStation 3 just as it is for the 360.

The rumours have been gathering pace amongst online communities, and have been neither confirmed nor denied by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive. Watch this space.

50 million? Microsoft could make 2 new complete and exclusive AA titles with that money. That's what I call money well spent. They could have just gave me 100K.

JD-82, no, not so simple. Not everyone has both a 360 and a PS3. If you want the DLC you have to pay for it on top of buying a 360? That's a bit lame.

@organinc_shadow - yeah but if you only have one console you don't have a choice so the point is moot...if you only own a PS3 you're gonna buy the PS3 version DLC or not and vice versa...When it comes right down to it you buy the version of the game you want...i've got my special edition preordered for the 360 because of the DLC, I love the fact that a game can be extended beyond it's lifespan for a few extra quid.  If Sony had done the same I would have ordered the PS3 version...i bought Burnout Paradise for PS3 solely because it runs slightyl better than the 360 version, independant comparisons have stated that it looks better and runs slightly better...not a big advantage but i'll always buy the best version of a game rather that stick religiously to one system to show "solidarity".

@ IONIXX - The GTA games have been on XBOX before...they were TIMED playstation exclusives...so make sure and get your facts straight before shooting your mouth off dude...

So in theory if it is just these chapters that are exclusive to 360 then they probably arent going to be that important to the story or anything like that, so why does it matter?

.... I thought Microsoft paid the 50mill for exclusive right to show GTA IV Nothing that had to do ingame just exclusive footage and videos that would only be seen on xobox before the release of the game  but maybe not thats just what i thought dont matter much to me

Nice. And who cares about extra add-ons, you have to pay more for them. I never buy add-ons, especially not with Motorstorm, the game was expensive enough anyway!

Why cant Microsoft just stay out of GTA all together, i still cant believe that is being relesed for 360. Now they get to have DLC and PS3 dont. Whats up with that nonsense. In the Words of that German Guy from Balls of Furey " THIS IS OUTRAGE."

bill gates has so much money he got no idea what to spend it on!!! microsft could have built the most futuristic console but instead paid a man to buld it in a shed out of old pc parts, then say i know it looks like a sky + box but instead of the green bit in the middle it goes red after a few days!

I hope the PS3 version does get the DLC,I don't want to buy an Xbox 360 because of the ridiculous failure % and none of the games on the system interest me,but if the DLC is only for the Xbox 360,then so be it,I will be quite busy with other PS3 games anyway:P

this is pointless it says what we know, both will get downloadable content but there will be a special content which is also available for the 360.

the 2 chapters only for 360 but ofcourse there gonna be stuff like 6 new guns and cars pack for both ps3 and 360.

@ Babiloo - My thoughts exactly.  I'm tired of all these companies releasing games for regular price and then adding extra content for more money.  $1 here, $5 there. I don't want a chopped up game.

There will be plenty of extra content for the PS3 version. It may end up with exclusive content of its own.

it's logical that any other downloadable content would be avaiible for BOTH systems. Why would anyone think otherwise? The problem is that there's been nothing else announced.

The point is downloadable content could be a factor in the decision which system to buy it's important that the PS3 version be of equal or grater value for it to have an effect on system sales.

now im not a GTA fan but i take the whole DLC thing as they paid for it to be DLC not saying they cant put that content on the ps3 bluray version due to extra space but thats just my take on it and im probably wrong but they just paid for it to be exclusive to the DLC part

I could care less if there is extra content for the 360 or how much of it there is? Simple: I own a PS3 and if they come out with a good PS3 version of the game I will buy it!

i for one dont want downloadable content. all it is is the devlopers making more money. why cant they just put the content in the game in the first place(unless ur xbox cuz of their limited space on disk) or if they come up with new ideas save them for a new game

Wasn't that made pretty clear before?MS paid $50 million for the episodic content, not ALL DLC,i'm sure if there is any OTHER DLC,it would make it's way to the ps3.

I'm sure the games big enough without the added chapters. I'm going to gp with the version that offers free online multiplayer which is the PS3. I'n not keen on buying gold membership and then paying for 2 chapters.

Spending 50 million for 2 chapters, wow. Can Microsoft make their money back? Will 2 chapters benifit sales? They will only get a  piece of the pie for every copy and  D/C sold and I still think the  PS3 version will sell more, especially in Europe.
