Fallout 3 banned in Australia

Posted on July 9th, 2008 at 08:13 EDT

Bethesda’s forthcoming post-apocalyptic RPG Fallout 3 has been refused rating by Australia’s Office of Film and Literature Classification, according to reports from VG247.com

The news comes just days after Bethesda revealed a number of controversial themes included in the highly anticipated title, such as slavery, drugs and addiction.

As mentioned previously on PSU, Australia does not permit the sale and distribution of any title beyond that of an MA 15+ rating in the territory, with Fallout 3 joining a host of games that have been refused rating, the most recent case being that of horror FPS, Shellshock: Blood Trail.

Fallout 3 is still on track for release in North America on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 later this year.

Stay tuned.

Won't this really help the PS3 version of Fallout 3?  Since Australia is on PAL format and the PS3 can support all formats for PS3 games... So they'd be able to easily purchase the US version (NTSC) of Fallout 3 for PS3 and play it on their PS3 (PAL). Although I suppose 360 owners could just buy the UK version (if that's PAL).

Oh FFS.

Aussie here, and seriously, i am sick of this crap. I have been hanging out for this game since announcement. I know to the diehard players it isnt real Fallout, but *sigh* Australia is so DAMED backwards some times. We are prepared to send our kids away to fight a war that they dont really understand, but wont let mature adults make their own decision about what they do with their spare time. oh AND roo shooting(kangaroo) is a national sport. Come one. People can get REAL guns, and go shoot our national emblem when ever they want.

planning on importing.

People can get real guns and shoot our nationa emblem whenever they want?

What part of Australia do you live in, mate?

I dont know anyone who goes Roo shooting. It is NOT a national sport you wank.

No one can just go get a gun and shoot at one whenever they want. They banned a game because we dont have an R rating for games - thats why. Its stupid- but at the moment its what it is...

Mentioning that kangaroo shooting crap is a bunch off bullcrap.

We have strict gun laws here. What a stupid comment.

Hopefully we won't have the same problem in New Zealand.  Did Aus get GTA4?  NZ got a toned down version apparently.

posted 10:10am EDT - July 10th, 2008

Yeah the aussie version of GTA4 was toned down to be able to be released, but like GTA4 I will just import Fallout from the US and have it delivered to my door for less than it costs to buy the game off the shelf here.

Too bad for all them shops in australia which won't be able to retail yet another excellent game, I'd hate to have a video-game shop downunder with all these games being banned forcing thier usual clients to buy thier games overseas!
