First Look at Highlander on PS3

Posted on January 13th, 2008 at 17:49 EDT

We reported back in August about SCi gaining the licensing to create a Highlander game. Not much has been spoken on in regards to this title; however, a trailer has been released which will be viewable below. The game is being developed by Widescreen and published through Eidos Interactive.

The game is still set to span over 2000 years of story throughout the plot. You’ll get to fight in such cities/countries/landscapes as Pompei, Japan, Highlands, and then finally New York.

In order to freshen up your minds, here are some of the features you can expect in the game.

* 4 distinct environments and 18 missions - Play in NY (near future), Pompeii before the eruption, Highlands in the medieval ages and Japan during the Samurai era - Epic Engine for high quality graphics
* 3 weapons to master - Katana, Claymore and Double Sword
* 9 navigations features - Dagger climbing, Ropes, Dynamic ladders, Swan dive, Freefall, Traverse climbing, Cannonball, Beams, Ziplines
* Quickening techniques - Resurrection, Chi balance (stamina), Weapon Mastery (Fireblade, Wind Fury, Stone Armor), Channelling the Source (charge up for powerful attacks)
* 77 characters - New main character – Owen Macleod, Familiar characters from series/movies (Methos)

Here is the first trailer for the title:

pah...the only good highlander film was the original...after that they got terrible...a game based on a made up character loosely tied in to the original story ...bad idea...the whole thing is being done to promote the new highlander film...

Oh and when did "Highlands" become a city? I'm Scottish, lived here my whole life and i've never heard of a city names Highlands...come to think of it i've never heard of a city named Japan either...

@ anonymousaversa

Your kidding right? What are you expecting? More flavors of sharp swords? Or do you not know the story and assume that uzi's shotguns an RPG's should be a great idea?

The game sounds great and I love the highlander mythos. I want to play this game already. I hope it doesn't let me down.

Japan isnt a city idoit and folded steel blade own katana

watashi wa samuri desu yo. anata wa ? watashi no katana ja arimasen. anata no katana desu ka ?

by the way the samuri would own his badly since they were the best sword fighters in the world and their folded stell blades were the strongest lightest most effecitve blades in the world it is almost inpossible to break then they can slice a man in half in a clean cut and they are light and perfectly balanced the scots were just barbarians who won their battles by getting drunk and enraged and making the enermy piss their pants even though im of scotish decent from the murray clan i still want to live in japan

maybe they meant countries who gives a shyt we all knew what they meant when posting this article lol people make mistakes and editors can too geez

n e ways I dont know nothing at all about highlander except that there are people that roamed the earth that are immortal and the only way to kill an immortal is by cutting off their head WTF? i guess...... i would rent this game but not buy it because it's multi-plat meaning your not going to get the best out of the PS3 and I would rent it to get further intellect about the series and movies.

you cant really have more weapons other then those three if you want to be accurate as to what owen likes to use. colin didnt have many trademark weapons up until he received his katana just like owen.

@motzo - First, work on your spelling...I don't think any Samurai would be caught dead with a "badly"...(one of many many mistakes.)

Also, the Japanese Katana, Wakazashi and Tanto...while exceptionally strong could be broken and were regularly broken by ninjas.  Ninjas being the antithesis of the Samurai, would often kill a samurai and take the blade as a trophy unless they had been forced to break it during a battle.  This is how the blade breaker was invented.

With reference to the Scottish, I hope no one who knows you ever reads that post because it would probably lead to you getting lynched...The scottish were barbarians to a certain extent but only if you consider civilisation to be a suit of armour.  It seems like your entire education of Scottish warfare has come from Braveheart (a made up film by an Austrailian living in America) and Highlander (a film made by a lunatic).

When all is said and done, the Scots fought like madmen because they had very little to lose and everything to gain, they had the power to wield blades larger then many men could lift which would allow them to cleave a man head to crotch.  I don't deny that the Japanese Samurai were impressive, I love the Samurai ethos, i have  anumber of blades on my wall right now but please, get your facts straight before you run your mouth about something you clearly know nothing about.
