First Skate 2 details emerge

Posted on May 22nd, 2008 at 05:55 EDT

Electronic Arts has unveiled the first concrete details on its forthcoming PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sequel, Skate 2.

According to several videos released on the company’s official website, the game takes place approximately five years after the events of the first title, with San Vanelona having undergone somewhat of a dramatic change in the years gone by.

Following your success in winning Skater of the Year in the original Skate, the game’s main protagonist mysterious disappears, with no clue as to his whereabouts. In the meantime, the local law enforcement has cracked down heavily on the skating culture in the area, with caps placed on rails to prevent users from grinding, along with the appearance of several “No Skating" signs throughout town.

What local enthusiasts previously thought as a skater’s paradise has now become a mere shadow of its former self.

Sadly that’s all we have to go on right now, although expect more details to crop up (hopefully gameplay related) in the very near future.

The original is really cool, but I dodnt so much like the "no skating" areas because there was no way to combat the guards. If they got to close to you whilee skating you simple stopped and got kicked out, so if the whole game is like this it's going to be alot mor frustrating than fun.

Only tried the demo skate. 1 so I don't know what happened outside the skate park. But this seems kindda cool.

I don't know if having it set in the same city is a good idea... Seems like pure lazyness to me =/

get ready to do the same trick over and over  even though you move the stick differently... lame

booyah, it's too bad you aren't coordinated enought to properly manage skate's controls.  Most other people, including myself, don't have any trouble doing the exact tricks that we intend to do, so the problem isn't the controls, it's you.

This does not sound very promising :S

I just want a bigger, smoother and tighter city.... not a cheasy story mode! this sounds way too tony hawk!

This could either go really well (the city is a 'Teenage Wasteland' [<too good to pass up] with the constant threat of anti-skating retaliation forcing you into underground skate havens and occastionaly reemerging with a band of rebel skaters to retake the hearts of areas with some sort of contest, or you and your band of hoodlums fight back against The Man. And "anti-skating neighborhoods appear grey and hostile while friendly neighborhoods are bright and friendly)

psn id: gingo.... this storyline sounds kind of odd and as other people have said, if they want the game to be fun they need to make sure it doesn't get too frustrating

There's a lot of things EA needs to fix this time around but I'm sure I'll be picking this up anyway.  First one was great.
