Free Radical: Haze delay has made "a big difference"

Posted on February 18th, 2008 at 11:43 EDT

Free Radical, the developer of the forthcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive Haze, has gone on record to assure gamers that the numerous delays the title has endured over the last few months have made “a big difference” to the final version of the game.

Speaking on Ubisoft’s official forum, a company spokesperson stated, "While we can't explicitly say what improvements we've made (I'd love to tell you all the cool stuff we've been putting in!... but I also love my job too...).”

"I can guarantee you that the extra bit of time has made a big difference for the better".

Additionally, the team sympathizes with the frustration shared by consumers over the game’s delay, "but we just want to make sure things are right for the people who'll be playing Haze *very* soon".

"...maybe once Haze is sat toasting away in your PS3s we'll be able to do some post mortem video's/articles for you lot, and explain what's gone in and what improved with the bit of extra time we had", the spokesperson added.

Stay tuned for more coverage on Haze as it breaks.

I hope that Ubisoft sticks to it's May 2008 release date. The only thing that's hurting the PS3 is games being delayed and I AM SICK AND TIRED of game delays. However, a game company should never release a game if they don't feel that it is the best as it can be to their standards. But everybody already knows that developing games for the PS3 exclusively isn't an easy task anyways.

I'm assuming that "very soon" means that Haze will make the May 2008 release date and that's what I'm hoping for right now. The only exclusive game titles coming to the PS3 between now and MGS4 is Gran Turismo 5 Prolouge, MLB The Show, and Singar. Haze needs to be released in May and the PS3 needs it badly

i was planning to buy the game but when i saw the gameplay didn't like it better stick on call of duty 4 and wait for MGS4........UBISOFT ASSASSINS CREED SUCKS!!!!

I kind of liked the animations in this game, they look realistic. I don't know about the story though, I haven't been following the game's news too much, but from the footage I've seen, I hope it's more fun to play than it seems.

Yeah we know the "better late then rushed" argument, but also understand the STOP announcing 300 different release dates and not coming through. The other day I was reading either EGM or GamePro at a store and I read in the back where it says The Games that were either too little or too late, and it had Haze there saying how it was Okay but it was not even close to being a Halo killer. Anyone read this? And how the he(ll) did they get their hands on it?

well but of course every game delay is for the better... what else are they supposed to say... besides that... i've been waiting for this game since last year so i don't mind waiting it out... it's supposed to be released on 5/20... so i look foward to playing it on my birthday 5/21...

I wouldn't be to quick to release a FPS on the PS3 if it couldn't go toe to toe with COD4 either.....the bar has been set pretty high by Infinity ward. Haze will have to be really impressive to stand a chance.

@AclayPS3

What's worse, all the PS3 exclusives getting delayed and the final product is awesome? Or, all PS3 exclusive making their original release dates but are unfinished peices of work?

I know which one I choose. If the release date comes up and the games not finished what should they do? They have no choice but to delay the game if they want to be complete.

Delays have never bothered me anyway if its for unfinished games as I never buy the game on release or even weeks later. What I don't like is that some games get delayed in the UK because of the rest of Europe and all those different languages. In the UK we should have the same releases as in NA and the rest of Europe should wait. It would have made sense if game regions was seperate from movies so UK could be in the same game region as NA, and the same for Australia as well.

It's better they take their time to put out an amazing product, than rush it and have enormous problems like COD4 has had. TRUST ME, you do not want another COD4.... if Haze can produce the hype thats behind it, FreeRadical is my game developer whenever $68.83 comes out of my pocket. Cheers!

I would much rather have a game delayed and be awesome then have a rushed POS like so many other games that have come out. *cough* Area 51. While I dont like delays more then anyone else, its a part of the gaming world. I think Blizzard has the best qoute for this on commenting on Star Craft 2 realese date, "When its done".

It will look like a first year next gen title .... i don't expect it to come close to the looks of a Rainbow six vegas 2 or even call of duty 4 .... games that take this long to develop get lost graphically along the way .Imagine resistance coming out Now instead of at launch ... it would be like ... what is this??? Graphically speaking of course.... by the time haze comes out ... the graphics should be on par with resistance 2 and even uncharted ...I bet this game will look dated .Mark my words!!!!

Problems with COD4....here are a few...

1. servers crashed and wouldn't work for like the 1st two weeks. i know i could barely get a game in for a long time until the patch came out.

2. game crashes when host leaves room. uh...if i am lucky i get to finish 1 or 2 whole rounds a night without this happening. the most retarded thing ever i tell you.

3. The bog. never finished a map on this level without it lagging out. EVER! and i have had it since launch.

4. no muting....so i get to listen to some idiot blast rap all game long.

5. glitches galore. this isn't the worst because all online have em but this has alot.

6. sniper rifle hit recognition is almost non-existant. (i don't mind much but some do)

i could go on and on about how crappy the match making servers work and tons of other stuff online and not even discuss the offline problems. sadly this is still the best game out there...but that just shows how poor the lineup for the ps3 is. cod4 may not be a turd but it has tons and tons of flaws that could have used some extra time.....i mean did infinity ward not even try to set up an adequate server system? based on pre-sales alone they had to know they had a huge following for this game?

hopefully they fix alot of issues with haze with this extra time but with ubisofts track record and the fiasco of assassins creed i won't hold my breath.

Well as long as they made it even better... What I've seen at Rage last year looked promising but there has been plenty of rocking FPS as of late so they really need it to stand out above the rest that'll be out at the same time... Hope they made some really good changes to the game...
