Harmonix: Euro PS3 Rock Band will "sing"

Posted on April 9th, 2008 at 10:28 EDT

Harmonix has spoken out in regards to Rock Band’s timed exclusivity on the Xbox 360 in Europe, assuring PlayStation 3 owners that the company is working hard with Sony to ensure the PS3 version will “sing.”

The company announced yesterday that the highly anticipated music simulation title would debut in Europe on May 23, albeit as an Xbox 360 timed exclusive. Pricing was also confirmed, sparking further backlash amongst the gaming community.

In an effort to quell frustrated PS3 owners, Harmonix’s Director of Design, Rob Kay, commented, "We want to say that while we've got this MS period of exclusivity on their platform just for a little while, when the PS3 version comes out it's identical.”

“You're going to have exactly the same experience with all the downloadable content. The whole Rock Band experience is there and it's fully fleshed and fully blown."

"We've worked really closely with Sony to make sure that, you know we've been able to do that in the States, and we're working with them at the moment to try and make sure that in Europe we can make it sing on the PS3 as much as possible,” added Kay.

“We love all the platforms. This is not us having a beef with any platform, we just want to get the Rock Band experience out there so people can enjoy it. It's coming."

Rock Band has been available in North America since November 2007, and will hit PS3, PS2 and Wii in Europe later this summer following its debut on Xbox 360 on May 23.

Well it doesnt bother me, because I wont ever be spending £180 on ONE game, no matter when it is released. Besides, I will be getting Haze on May 23rd, so all is still good for me. With the same amount of money it would cost for Rock Band, I could buy 5 copies of Haze, and still have £5 left. (Haze costing £35 a piece). Total rip off. Plus, EA, when a game is delayed on one console, you dont say.' Oh its all good, when the PS3 version is released it will be identical.' Surely there should be more content in the PS3 version, so us PS3 owners at least feel there is a reason for its delay. - Matt -

WTF is he on about?!! It should dam well "sing" it has in the states (on ps3) for a good few months now!! Secondly as has been said already by many, this is such a joke and one the biggest in the gaming industry for while ill bet. Its cheaper to buy and learn the instruments for real than it is to buy this game, what on earth is up with that!!! on the plus side at least ill be getting something worthwhile out of doing that.
Oh well at least we got GTA IV and Haze, and not forgetting MGS4 to tide us over for a long while, id rather have them than this colossal **** up that is EA and rockband, im certainly not buying it, even when price comes down!!!

how hard can it be to program crap that's been done on the ps1 [frequency]. Or was that ps2? It was early, if it was on the ps2.

This isn't a programming problem, where they have to have extra time, this is MS paying them off. As seen in the commercial for the title, where the 360 logo appears in the end.

They must be delusional if they think we can't see through this bull

psn id: gingo.... after their dire pricing of the game nobody cares about it being a 360 timed exclusive

Unless the game is just like the US one. Fellow UK friends, don't buy it. Compared to the 360 version the PS3 version is glitchy. The menus are pixelated. The opening video is low-res compared to the high-res of the 360 version.. It only supports 720p, the lighting isn't as great, basically an all-around inferior version of a 360 port. It's not worth the money.

It is bizarre that it is a timed 360 exclusive in Europe when it wasn't anywhere else in the world (I got it on lauch day in the U.S.)... I am amazed at the problems Sony has in getting content out to Europe!

Thats dumb man, why make a game exclusive in one area when it's been out for a long while on both systems? Oh right, its cuz they can't make enuff for demand right?
