Hayter discusses Lost Planet movie

Posted on July 9th, 2008 at 06:54 EDT

Speaking in attendance at the Anime Expo 2008 recently, voice actor David Hayter discussed his role in the upcoming movie adaptation of Capcom’s science fiction shooter, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition.

Hayter, who is best known for his performance as Solid Snake in Konami’s popular Metal Gear Solid franchise, said that he is currently in talks with Warner Bros to write the screenplay for the film.

"It's not entirely confirmed yet, but we are just closing the deal with Warner Bros. for me to adapt Lost Planet,” said Hayter.

"When they gave me Lost Planet to play to see if I wanted to write the movie, I looked at the environments, I looked at the vital suits, the armor, the creatures, and watched the story."

"While I couldn't take those scenes and put them up verbatim, I can appreciate the core of the story and what it is about the character's journeys that grab people."

Aside from voice acting, Hayter is also an accomplished writer, having written the screenplay for the X-Men movie in 2000, as well as serving as co-writer for the sequel, X2, alongside Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris.

The first Xmen was good, The second a little worse but passable, the third was box office poison but apparently he had nothing to do with that one.

Why do you guys hate X-Men so much? It was friggin AWESOME! But seriously I heard that Lost Planet is horrible so why make a movie? Well since this guy is doing it, I can have hope....but come on out with MGS movie already!

Why Lost Planet?  It would have to be one of the worst games I have ever played

Hmm, I for one don't think an accurate TRILOGY for mgs is possible.  There are several hours of cutscenes in MGS4 to emulate, let alone emulating the gameplay essential to the story, and also the other three games.  And if they released a movie based on a new arch of the story, it would be either: seperated into several 2 hour films. (Think Star Wars. Wait, that's an orgasmic idea) be incredibly short, or be incredibly shallow.

Lost Planet was like trying to play a FPSin a batch of cold molasses. Slow, sticky, and stupid. The game should have stayed on the crapbox and now a movie!!!! WTF are they thinking, please don't make this as I had alredy died a little when i had to sit through ultraviolet for a friend. Please god not again.

David Hayter not screenwriting Metal Gear Solid: CONFIRMED.

I hope he doesn't let his reputation as a famous voice actor cloud his head. Last thing we need is another Uwe Boll. *ZING!*

I think the first X-Men was watchable (not great, but worth watching), but two and three were amazing.

Anyway, can we please stop Game to Movie adaptions? PLEASE?  They produce nothing but garbage.  The only ones that were even watchable was the Resident Evil ones....

why would you even want to make a film on Lost Planet?? and there was nothing wrong with the first two X-men films, I think you're criticising it too much I mean it wasn't mind blowing stuff but the films didn't even come close to garbage

ummm, Hayter please don't do it.  You're excellent at the voice acting.  Other than that there is no comment.  Your movies speak for themselves.

Yes, X-men 2 and 3 were good, 1 was alright.  I also think he may be letting the voice acting of MGS get to his head :p
