Konami has revealed that Hideo Kojima is in the process of working on a brand new title completely separate from the Metal Gear universe.
According to Fumiaki Tanaka, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Kojima’s new project is apparently in conceptual stages, with little in the way of concrete information available. Tanaka also noted that the title is unlikely to be unveiled this year, with Kojima still in the process of writing a scenario for the game.
On the subject of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Tanaka said that the company is forecasting sales of one million units in Japan, with overall sales expected to match those of earlier titles in the series.
When pointed out the PS3’s installed base in Japan has yet to total two million, he noted that many users are simply waiting for the game to be released before purchasing the system. Furthermore, he believes that the machine’s user base would likely increase before MGS 4 hits shops, based on the release of several high profile PS3 titles from other companies.
Tanaka also reiterated that he feels Sony’s online service, the PlayStation Network, is the most suited to Konami as a whole, affording the company more freedom when compared to the Xbox 360 or Wii.

i would say in japan it sales less then a mil in the 1st week as ssbb for wii sold abit over 800k in a week and its more popular. i also think it will sell over 4 mil worldwide rivalling halo 3

mgs4 will shift systems alright, and for hideos new conceptual project that sounds good Since it could be a whole-new franchise that could have 4 sagas to it like mgs4.
If he releases it as a ps3 franchise he will have a chance to use 100gb of blu ray space especially how the years will go by and blu ray will get larger disc space.
Yeah, Tanaka is right, there are thousands and thousands of people that are waiting until Metal Gear Solid 4 is released before buying a PS3 in both Japan and the U.S. It was a smart move by both Konami and Sony to have the 80GB PS3 bundle with MGS4 because with every PS3 console is sold, another copy of MGS4 will be sold, and the MGS4 bundle will catch more attention than the other Motorstorm bundle.
Here are my predictions: I think that Metal Gear Solid 4 will sell at least 2 million copies worldwide within the first month. If MGS4 doesn't sell over 1 million copies within 2 weeks, I'll be surprised.

MGS4 can't come soon enough. I'm pretty sure whatever project Kojima is working on will be great, but can he top his best, can he make us fall in love with a character more than Snake?
