Infinity Ward on COD4 single player DLC content

Posted on April 1st, 2008 at 04:17 EDT

Infinity Ward has said that while it doesn’t have any plans yet to introduce single player downloadable content for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, it hasn’t ruled out the possibility altogether.

Speaking to Videogamer.com, Programmer John Shining stated, “I wouldn't rule it out but we don't have any plans for that right now."

Shining explained that it has become expected of developers to release multiplayer-based content for First Person Shooter (FPS) titles. However, Shining noted that COD 4’s current downloadable content was in direct response to consumer requests.

"In terms of CoD4, the multiplayer on Xbox LIVE and PSN has been just huge, and so the response there has just been amazing," added Shining.

“A lot of people have told me that it's the first multiplayer game that they've played, so we've drawn a lot of new people into our multiplayer. And the community just keeps asking "give us more maps, more maps, we love to play, we just want more variety in the areas we're fighting in!” So in this case the community has just been asking for more multiplayer maps so that's what we've given them here."

Infinity Ward is currently preparing the release of the variety map pack for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, the former of which will be available on or around April 25.

New maps are good but we shouldn´t have to pay for them!

COD4 does not allow you to choose a map and sometimes U get to play the same map over and over again (reason being lobby closed or host left the game, new game, same map as before). If I´m gonna pay for these maps I wanna choose when I play them. Also, we supported the game and bought enough copies for a GOOD PROFIT for them. They could simply ´´thank us`` with the new maps.

Unreal Tournament does this. The only problem is that its community is not as large.

Nice. But for me, it's not only new maps i want. I'm getting a little tired of the gameplay. Maybe it'll pass.

Would like some free multiplayer maps please, especially as the game came with only a handfull of medeocre maps. Personally i think they could have worked on this game for a couple more months to give us a meaty er single player campaign and of course more multiplayer maps

Ugh.  Complain complain, never enough.

I don't understand why you young people don't get that nothing comes for free.  Someone designed the maps, coded them, polished them.  They got paid to do so.  You really think it's fair that a developer or publisher eats those costs?  Do you?  You paid for a complete game.  You got one.  If there was never any DLC for COD4, a person who bought it could be happy with what they got (after the sever issues got fixed after Christmas, that is).  It would be different if there were only 3 Multiplayer maps to start or something like that, but it's NOT like that.  FIXES are free, CONTENT is not.  LIFE AIN'T FREE!

Sure decent in this world comes for free, but we bought their products and we deserve some credit for making their game extremely popular (thanks for its great gameplay).  AND why can't we have free DLC?  Afterall, most PC games wouldn't bother to buy the original version (full price) due to its short gameplay on the campaign! BTW, PC gamers most probably just buys the "pirated copy"!

Nobody but infinity ward deserves any credit for making a great game. People think just because they buy a game it gives them the right to get extra content over and above what they already paid for!!! I think your daddy was just a bit too generous with your pocket money! These kids have no idea what goes on in the real world due to living very sheltered lives under mommy and daddies wing.

My guess is that the people demanding free DLC obviosly had their PS3's bought for them from mommy and daddy. As mentioned before, It takes alot of time, effort and money into developing these new maps.  Trust me, I hate playing the same map over and over again. But that doesn't mean you should be given free DLC. Get a job you fing whiny a** kids. Or you could just have mommy or daddy buy them for you like they did your PS3.

Yes infinity ward do deserve credit for making a good game, no one said they didnt, all we are saying is that the game content on release was a little on the thin side, and surely you can agree. Other developers manage to knock games out with far more logevity and seem to really want to give the consumer as much as possible, yes this game is amazing and yes they did a good job, but in terms of game length and multiplayer maps, its pretty stingy.

Ps im 34 and bought my PS3 all by my grown up adult self but i shall stamp my feet and role around the floor to get more content for this game...............so there, check the users profile before calling them kids.............Dummy

I wouldn't mind paying for new maps if they were free.

What?

Free is a price too

(Joke)

In my opinion this game is popular because of the multiplayer. So IW don't waste your time with single player dlc concentrate on multiplayer dlc.

On another note why is the ending of the title of this article "...DLC content". I thought DLC stood for Downloadable Content. Your saying content twice, so why bother with the abbreviations. Sort yourselves out.

I can't really see why they'd try to sell the DLC.  CoD4 was Game of the Year in so many places, sold extremely well on both platforms, and has a massive following.  3 maps.  3 freakin maps.  You don't even need the whole team, just the designers and coders.  I'm pretty sure IW made enough money from CoD4 that they can pay a small team for a month max of making maps.  More so because PSN is already getting screwed by getting the DLC 3 weeks later.  This almost makes me not want to pick up this game.  You can't seriously release something 3 weeks after another platform and expect people to be happy about it.

If Infinity Ward added more Single Player content for the game, maybe I would buy the game. Since I've heard Call of Duty 4 is incredibly short, I'm definanlty not going to buy it until the price drops. And since I'm not an Online person, if a game doesn't have a pretty decent Single Player campaign, then I'll have to pass. I wish that Call of Duty 4's campaign was at least the same length as Resistance.

I´m sorry for this comment but ARE U PEOPLE SERIOUS?! I´m glad U have money to pay for the new maps and all but think about Unreal Tournament! They gave the tools and ANYBODY with a little knowledge can do a map for the game. And they dont ask money for them. Also, Epic released free maps last week! Without having to pay for them!!! Thats called support the community by not FORCING TO PAY for additional content made by tools already done and optimised. Also, these maps even use the game campaing data! Cant u see that!

I dont mean to start a flame war just I dont agree with your personal veiwing of this matter. We payed for a game with its content! OK! Done that! But, with DLC it will only cause that developers will hold some content for later release for additional profit! Give us new perks, new weapons, something we havent seen in the game campaign. Gives an expansion bot online and offline and then I WILL PAY WITHOUT THINKING TWICE!

Wait, wait.  Hold up.  You mean some of you haven't even BOUGHT COD4 yet?!  Then what are you complaining about?  This train's pretty much passed you by anyway (and you missed a good one).  Just wait for the next big thing.
