Take a look at Mirror's Edge's upcoming demoIn an interview with Assassin’s Creed creator, Jade Raymond Hideo Kojima talks about the art of making videogames between eastern vs. western perspective. Among all other importance was the topic of violence in videogames; a subject that is highly talked about today with the increasing maturity of gamers and their demand of a more mature gaming experience.
Kojima gave credit to violence in videogames as he states that it only adds realism to a game that is focused on mature aspects such as combat:
“When you hit someone or inflict pain, faces get disfigured for example, and I want to make games that show that sort of thing.
If you don’t see the pain, you can’t understand what you’ve done, and you’ll pass through battles without taking responsibility for your actions. I don’t want to ignore that. I want players to think, even if it’s just a little, about what violence and war are.”
Those comments not only make sense of violence in videogames, but it also creates what could be described as an imaginative route to explaining violence in videogames, creating an immersive tone for a title.
In an industry where the average age of a gamer is growing, the content of videogames much reflect that and mere sweat droplets (ala SNES Mortal Kombat) just will not get the job done anymore.
However, how far can the violence go without it being seen as over-done?

kojima should say this to hillary communist clinton
That is true, but mostly the problem is people don't understand, and they likely won't, what it really means to kill someone. Or what it would be like to get shot. They just don't think about it. Maybe someday people will get it and stop thinking killing is fun and it never really happens, but it certainly won't be soon
I love violence in video games, yet I'm the calmest person around here (probably not, but you know). Not many people are that way. It's just like violence in music. People get too self-absorbed and think they can run whatever, do whatever they want. It's pathetic, and usually blamed on the media. Something that if you ask me, doesn't have an easy answer. I think one thing is people need to start taking more responsibility for their actions. With that said, keep the violence in the games!!!
The amount of violence in videogames are only there so long as gamers are willing to play them. To me, games are like interactive movies you can experience. As long as the action/horror type of games are made and there is a fanbase for it it will continue.
Killing in a Videogame=GOOD
Killing in real life=BAD
Its no one's fault but the person who commits a crime and the idiot parents who bougth the game for their kid.Seriously how is it not obviously you can't shoot someone in real life and just pick a health pack up or respawn
Kojima is my hero, plain and simple. I eagerly await Zone of the enders 3.
Or maybe violence in games has no link whatsoever to violence in the real world
People kill people. GET OVER IT. It doesnt automatically mean its due to videogame violence.
At least Kojima isnt completely against it
psn id: gingo.... this is a great idea by Kojima so that people will realise how much damage they are actually doing and immersing the player in the game so they will think twice about killing someone
@Oddface
Ditto. You took the words right out of my mouth. I've always viewed them as a form of of art, not kids toys. This world we live in, is so quick to blame somebody or something instead of people owning up to thier own actions. What ever happend to accountability? Whatever happend to parents being parents instead of thier kids best friends?
i am not voting for hillary clinton anyways. not because she's a woman but, she appearantly wants to band violent video games and i don't want that to happen to MGS Franchise. plus we need someone other than clinton or bush in the white house. just gets old having the same people. so. i am going to be very happy when MGS4 comes out so i can see how snakes story really ends.
i never see wats the problem with violence in video games anyways its every where else in movies and our society so wats the problem
if only people were this smart.....
Videogames have been blamed for nearly EVERYTHING that happens because of fu cked up retar ds,who can't differenciate between reality and fantasy,NOT because of violent games,i mean, would Ninja Gaiden Sigma make you wanna chop up your sibs?Well if you are a complete reta rd then yeah,it would, but if you have the smallest bit of sense in you, you'de know what's what.
I'm sure everyone here has seen movies like Saving Private Ryan, The Kingdom, Silence of the Lambs, Godfather, The Departed, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, etc. etc. Some movies show graphic scenes that I have never seen in videogames, yet they're considered art. I don't see how COD4 is different from The Kingdom, if anything it's less violent because you don't stand over dead bodies while they gush out blood, you just shoot and they fall.
just make the games look as realistic as possible, and with lots of fun.
Violence is part of humain being, in history vioence had always exist and it will probebly always exist. With that said, I think we must talk about violence carefully to not take that with a grain of salt. It's a serious matter. I am against war and violence and i beleave that some violente games should not be played by kids. I like some degre of violence in games but this violence should be keep in games.
p.s sorry my english is not always good it is not my main laguage.
