Following an slew of Internet speculation earlier this week, Konami Digital Entertainment has officially confirmed that its forthcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, will ship in North America on June 12, 2008.
The publisher also indicated that the game would ship with the Metal Gear Online “Starter Pack”, which allows for up to 16 players to compete against each other online.
Kazumi Kitaue, Chairman and CEO of Konami Digital Entertainment, commented, "Blockbuster events and premieres are a tradition of the summer.”
"We anticipate that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots fits that bill perfectly, and consumers will be waiting in line to get their copy of the game just like it's a hit Hollywood movie."
In addition, consumers who pre-order the game starting in April will receive a special Metal Gear Saga 2.0 DVD, which offers a prologue recapping events throughout the series, a 20th anniversary retrospective, characters bios for Big Boss, Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake and Solid Snake, along with a selection of trailers on MGS4.
Pre-order packs will also contain a download code used to access the Metal Gear Online beta, which is scheduled to go live this April.

A report on Eurogamer states that Europe will also receive the game on June 12.

Well, that's good news. I'll just wait until April to preorder mine from somewhere. I'm an old guy and I've really enjoyed these MG and MGS games over the years.

Since it's just shipping with the Starter Pack of MGO, does that mean the full game will be something that we'll be paying for? If so, I hope it's just a flat rate like a game, and not a monthly fee of some sort.

sweet. this is exciting for me . if hideo confirms it. it's true. going to the midnight release on this one. it might have like 30 people there though. my gamestop said they already had a bunch of pre-orders when i came in yesterday. i did it close to december when they said you can pre-order. they said i have a better chance because i'm near the top at the list.
It seems it will finally become a WorldWide scenario, Europe getting the game by June 12th, that's just amazing, games like these don't need betas or demo's.

I already knew that MGS4 would be a Worldwide release. I guess that the rumor about the release date being June 12th turned out to be true after all. I'm glad that Konami decided to release the game in early June instead of releasing the game on June 30th or something. I'm going to preorder my copy as soon as the Special/Limited Editions become avaliable. If there is just one game to own this year, it's MGS4.
Just hurry up and come out already!
