Konami explains MGS 4 delay

Posted on November 8th, 2007 at 09:22 EDT

Konami has stressed the importance of its decision to delay Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, insisting the company is committed to producing a quality that is “warranted” of such a venerable franchise.

Speaking in a closed investors meeting today in Tokyo, Konami’s Chief Financial Officer, Noriaki Yamaguchi, commented how the firm is interested in “reaching more fans worldwide."

He highlighted the primary reason of the delay, claiming, "We [Konami] want to work on the quality that is warranted for a MGS title."

Yamaguchi also stated the company is "committed" to a first quarter release in Japan next year, which, given the fact the current financial year concludes March 31 2008, points towards a Japanese release anywhere between April and July next year.

In related news, Konami Australia issued a press release today, claiming that the earliest the game could hit PAL territories is June 2008.

Stay tuned for more news on Metal Gear Solid 4 as it breaks.

Kojima san - you've promised a simultaneous release worldwide - and now this article states the earliest release date for PAL territories is June 2008 - does this mean Japan and NA will probably get MGS4 earlier??? if this turns out to be true, than you don't know the meaning of the word: simultaneous.

While I do live in NA, I still don't think it's cool to say it's a simultaneous worldwide release and then make it available later in all Pal regions. Delay it for everyone!

I don't care if there is a delay to ensure quality, as long as Konami stays loyal to the Playstation fans.  I'm not a big MGS fan, but I know this game will affect the PS3 install base, in turn bringing more good exclusives.  MGS Online might attract me, but I haven't seen enough of it yet.

Not cool...valid reason, but still not cool, especially on the non simultaneous release. You shouldn't use the fact that you've made a great series and your name stands with the elites of the industry...to think that dissappintment and broken promises will always be easy forgiven. There is a limit to all of that....no matter what goodgreatness you have done (...ask Michael Jackson lmao..). But on a serious note.....thats not cool!

@Everyone blaming Kojima:  Where is his name mentioned in this article?  This is YAMAGUCHI speaking, NOT KOJIMA.  Stop crying:  It's not the end of the world.

As far as the quiality of the MGS franchise, I've never read or heard of a bad review on them. I played all three on PS (plus MGS2 on Xbox), though not on the PSP...yet. I'm sure they don't want to disappoint any MGS fan when it is released!

So, what happened to a simultaneous world wide release!?!?

I am not worried about this annoucement. I am infact pleased to learn that konami wants to raise the quality of the game and thus raise the bar for game development on the ps3,as they have always done like with MGS2 on the ps2.I AM PATIENT.Take your time and give me something I will always live to remember KOJIMA SAN.
