In terms of pushing a console to its limits, naturally one would assume that it is the graphical aspect that is being pressed to the core. Rarely does anyone come to the assumption that pushing a console to its limits could also mean hardware elements from a gameplay perspective, instead of visual. In this sense, LucasArts believes that its latest venture, Fracture, is the game to do just that.
What makes Fracture so special is that it features an inventive Terrain Deformation system which permits players to use their many weapons to manipulate the ground beneath their feet. From LucasArts perspective, it was a challenge but one in which would pushes consoles to their limits.
LucasArts explains:
"We are really pushing the limits of what the Xbox 360 and PS3 can do with Fracture. While a lot of games are pushing the limits of what can be done visually in games, we also wanted to push gameplay to levels that literally could not be done on the previous generation of hardware.
"To put it simply, Fracture is one of the few games that really takes advantage of all of the processing power of the new consoles."
A gallant statement by LucasArts indeed. However, it should also be brought to attention that Star Wars: The Force unleashed is another game that plans to push the technological balance in video gaming. Indeed, it would appear that publisher LucasArts is going to use 2008 as a year for reinvention in videogames – stay tuned for more coverage.

Fracture E3 '07 Trailer
there is no way they are goin to push the ps3 to its limit if they stop when the 360 is maxed out
@terminator
thats 100%percent true i was thinking when i seen the title that would be 2 totally different video games with the ps3 version far far (like the distance from earth to the farthest galaxy in space far) more superior than the 360 version
we shall see about that...
Pfft! Limit!!! PS3 Has No Limit!!
Xbox will have big proplems while PS3 Will Run Smooth!!
they do realise that both consoles aren't the same in terms of hardware and spec don't they? if they do aim for the game to fully push to the consoles limits, shouldn't the xbox version be out now whilst we wait a few years for fracture to push for the limits of the ps3? it's all rubbish, there just gonna push to the xbox limits and port it like chomperbull says.
All fanboyness aside, it's quite impossible to push the limits of both consoles with the same game, considering the hardware is nowhere near on the same level.
There is no way both games would be the same since the systems are totally different from each other. If that was such case there would have to be two different games for each console. Ps3 being the far superior one. But we all know thats not going to happend I bet they are going to do the 360 first since im sure they know its media can hold less and its not at par with ps3 technical aspects. Im sure it wil be a port from 360 to ps3 and they would say both systems were maxed out. I may be wrong but I doubt it.
Jacsterd ur funny, 360 which runs smoother in many multiplatform games and i am not thinking of ports, i mean simutainious built games.
i not dissing the ps3 jus sayin u cant go and say something as stu!ped as that as you would complain if someone came here and said something stu!ped like this game will not be able to fit on a blu ray, a 360 would be best
so they gonna have more going on in the ps3 because it got more processing power huh...mmm we will see lucasarts ....we will see
It will probably be another two years before we see the PS3 pushed to its limits so this statement by Lucas arts is utter tosh. Real time deformation has already been done and tested on the PS3, and its something quoted that only the PS3 can handle
oh man.. there is no way to push limit becuese ps3 is more powerful than xbox360 and the drive 50gb blu-ray if they pushed maximun xbox360 then they can add more addon improvments 50GB of blu ray then probably ps3 the better.
psn id: gingo... yea so this means pushing 360 to its limit while ps3 still has a lot more power left, great lucasarts another shoddy port coming our way
If they are serious in what they're saying, then both platforms will need to be developed independently of each other. Porting from one platform to the other will not bring out the best in either system.
And if they do develop the game in such a fashion, we should then see that the PS3 will enable them to include much more in the game.
Developers to boycott "To do" list:
Electronic Arts? Check
Capcom? Check
Lucas Arts? Check
yea right, they won't even hit 30% of the ps3's power. we'll see when they game get released.
My *ss LucasArts! Maybe a PS3 exclusive in 5 years comes close to maxin the PS3 but Fracture hahaha no way!
now we all know title shoudl be 360s limits. but seriously now they arent going to make two different games, one better thna the other (i wish they would). However EA have stated that games turn out better when developed fro PS3 then ported to 360 so if they are doing this, this would mean although we would be gettin a high quality game it couldnt be pushing the limits of the PS3 or the360 would be struggling. If they were to port 360 version over however then it would be a totally different story, not that it wouldnt be a high quality game just that developers seem to put effort into a 360 port than a PS3 one ;)
If Lucas Arts does indeed plan to "push the limit" of the Xbox 360 and PS3 in terms of processing, they will surely reach the 360's limit much sooner. And if they indeed plan to push the limits of the PS3's processing that means that the PS3 version SHOULD be superior to the Xbox 360 version. If the PS3 version isn't superior to the Xbox 360 version, they would have FAILED because everyone knows that the PS3 is superior to the Xbox 360's hardware in nearly everyway.
And I really hate the fact that this game is another shooter.... the gaming industry is getting watered down with too many shooters and too many games are focused too much on Online play and not enough on the Single Player, I sure hope that this game doesn't fall into that trap because if it does I'm not buying it regardless of how much it pushes the PS3.
Square Enix has said they want to push the PS3 with FFXIII, and that has been pushed back how many times? Fracture is a lost cause, how can they be so foolish? I wonder if they just didn't want Microsoft mad at them for saying they're going max out the 360, but the PS3 won't get close. They don't want to admit to the PS3 being the more powerful.
how to push a 360 and ps3 to the limit at the the same time?
solution: 360 has 20x more loading screens, like you walk 5 steps and a 3min loading screen pops up.
a bull statement designed to have fanboys waking up with wet sheets...as the comments above have already stated... weve seen the quality of the ports are like from 360 to ps3... utter useless. if they truly develp both games independently then the console war will be over until the next generation... but thats not gonna happen is it????
16 mths into the PS3's life and they reckon they're goning to push the ps3 to its limits? Does that mean games after fracture won't improve over time with physics etc? You can't push the PS3 to its limit if you don't know where the limits are. And the PS3 is built for doing all these vast calculations much better than the 360 is. So if they have pushed the 360 then and the game is the same on PS3, then they haven't tapped in the PS3's power yet.
LucasArts wanted to push the ps3 processing power to the limits, thats what lucasarts said in the beginning right?Im not a 360 fanboy or wii fanboy or a ps3 fanboy I own all three consoles and i do c the ps3 have the potential more processing power better than 360.Dont the developer say it them self that they r using 10% or 20% of ps3 processing power not even 50% or 70% power of the ps3 lets wait and c like about 2 or 3 years from now we will c the developer use th e full power of the ps3 just like the xbox 360 did like everyone keep saying the ps3 graphix r garbage just because the ps3 just came out like 1year and half right ? I believe that the ps3 launch titles r better than xbox 360 in terms of graphix u can compare it when the xbox 360 came out the graphix arent that good then u the ps3came out the graphix r better than the xbox ones. I heard Activision saying the ps3 have alot of processing power,so the developer right now r deveolping games for the ps3 to its full potential just wait and c about it.
hahaha what a joke!
Good luck. Anyone want to know my prediction? EA will try and buy out LucasArts if this comes true.
@AclayPS3 I completely agree. I was disappointed in the single player of COD4. Army of Two seems short as well, I haven't completed it yet. Now I bought R6V2 and I hope it's as long as the first one was. Too many multiplayer-oriented FPS games out there. Where's the story? Where's the depth? It's all online, BS
IOW they're gonna max out the 360 and leave the ps3 to suffer
WOW what an orginal idea its not like thats been done before in old old games like WORMS (and there is a 3d one) i know this is "differant" but still dont make it out like your this big special revolutionist
The difference between 360 and ps3 is just like comparing sega tapped out vs ps2. You just can't put them in the same fruit bowl
The way I see it, they'd be making two completely different games! While X360 reaches its limits, PS3 would hunger for so much more! And while the PS3 may need a BD or two for the game, X360 will need to multiply that by about 3!
I don't see this happening!
I would like to see what they're going to do furst before assuming anything yet. But yeah, too many shooters these days.
I was looking forward to this game, but I'm not so sure now. Do I really trust a company who says they are pushing the limits of a console less than 2 years old? Being on par with each other is not pushing limits. 3 cores vs. 7 cores? The 7-cored machine SHOULD be massively superior. The 360 can't even handle anything at a native 1080p. Halo 3 says 1080p but it was in fact Enhanced Definition (640p) and upscaled.
