In 2002 the videogame industry saw the debut of the 1930s inspired title, Mafia, released on the PC platform and later ported over to the PlayStation 2 two years later. The game was revolutionary in the terms that it placed the gamer in the shoes of a foot-solider, trying to climb the ranks of a mob family.
The game received fair review scores across the board and for years now, gamers have be waiting anxiously to get their hands on Mafia 2, which was announced last year for the PC and next-generation consoles.
The wait to continue the crime drama may be coming to an end as publisher Take-Two has finally shed some light on a potential release date for the highly anticipated sequel. This news comes off the heels of a financial conference call held on Tuesday where the company revealed that Mafia 2 would release in fiscal year 2009, which is between October 2008 and November 2009.
Mafia 2 will follow a similar GTA-inspired “sandbox shooter” scheme, with the action taking place in the late 1940s and early 1950s induced by a Hollywood driven cinematic experience.
Indeed, with Grand Theft Auto IV and Saints Row 2 releasing in 2008, Take-Two will have no difficulty establishing Mafia 2 in 2009.

Will be brill but wont beat Gta cant wait
:)
this and gta arent the same, i mean story wise and everything else. This game is about going up te ranks of mafia so yu follow structure that you cant break from while gta is free world you can work with whomever you want.
Say what you will about the simularities but I totally loved teh first one on the PC. It was so fresh to play in that era! The cars, for the most part, sucked cuz it was the 30's but it was still fun as h3ll to play! AND THE STORY! was great! I couldn't get over how wonderfully scripted the story was! I felt the script could be ported over to a movie with hardly any changes, it was that good.
psn id: gingo.... i feel sorry for Mafia and Saints Row because although they will make great games they will never be able to compete with GTA
Well '09 sounds like another good year
