Metal Gear Online beta gets new content

Posted on April 29th, 2008 at 06:51 EDT

Konami Online announced today that it has updated the Metal Gear Online public beta in the form of a new map and game mode for consumers to experience.

The new map, dubbed Midtown Maelstrom, centres on the Middle Eastern setting of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and consists of several main streets, dark alleyways and alternate paths.

Meanwhile, Sneaking Mission features one character and two teams; Snake, Red Team and Blue Team. Snake’s objective is to collect a set number of dog tags by stunning his foes, while the other teams are simply required to neutralize Snake a certain number of times.

If more than 10 people are involved in this mode, another player is able to take control of the Mk II to assist Snake. Meanwhile, gamers playing as Snake will have access to all his abilities, including the camouflage system.

Sneaking is a brilliant game mode and it is awesome to play as snake. It is awesome to be an enemy going up against snake and it goes to show he is almost invisible when moving and prettymuch invisible when staying still. Very fun mode.

Its a interesting mode, the pitty is that people are playing this game like it is Warhawk, nobody take it with calm.

Yes, I have been able to connect on the US servers.  I have played a few games, but it is not that much fun to me.  I think the areas are too small.

No need to worry for those of you who weren't able to get in on this. MGSO is a pretty lame multiplayer game. MGS is meant to be a stealth game, and 90% of the time while playing it just feels like a slow and clunky third person shooter. The sneak game mode is fun, but the highpoint of MGS4 is obviously the single player. I can't see anyone forking out cash for just multiplayer.
