According to the latest reports out of the Kojima Productions camp, the Blu-ray disc isn't big enough to hold all of Metal Gear Solid 4 in its entirety. Apparently if you're a fan of the original Japanese voice overs and you live in America, you're going to have to import your game to hear them. Metal Gear Solid 4 will not be releasing worldwide with all voice over tracks included. What this means is, if you're in Europe or North America, expect to only be able to listen to the English track, where as if you live in Japan, expect to hear the standard Japanese voices exclusively.
The latest podcast from the camp released with this quote, "Unfortunately because of disc space, we don't have the space to include other languages, other voice over files for the respective versions. So the Japanese version's not gonna have English VO, and the North American and European versions won't have Japanese VO."
They may have been able to fit in the dual-audio voice overs by just a small margin, unfortunately, this would have led to the game being further delayed. Rather than keep the game out of the grasp of its strong following of fans, Kojima has decided to just keep something simple and provide the necessary voice overs in each region.
It seems a lot of MGS4 information has been hitting at one time, which is what was promised to us roughly a month ago. Hopefully, we'll be hearing a lot more info as the release date approaches. We'll keep you guys updated as things hit the open air.

That's ok
Running out of room on 50gb blu-ray discs already, are we? MGS4 FTW!
Oh no...*sob*
did mgs4 used a 50gb bluray or a 25gb?
Would be good if they had a download over PSN for voice-overs. Oh well, it's not like I'll need it. Bring on MGS4!!
You know what this means? It means that we're gonna have an almost unlimited amount of conversation in the game. You'll be able to annoy your radio partners more than ever probably. I bet there's going to be so many conversations that you won't be able to hear them all after your 3rd time playing through. It's going to be Emazing (electronically amazing.)
Honestly, who cares?
But, Blu-ray isnt needed, right guys!?! LOL
Good to see they filled up a 50GB Blu-ray...Good old Kojima
It wouldn't really matter as both voice overs casts are really well chosen.
AWEOSOME.....hehe that means i'll be seeing final fantasy XIII in two blurays....hahaha
well wat sony could do is always put up like a patch or somethin on psn and make the japanese vo as a dlc...
wow... they filled a 50GB blu-ray disc. just think at how long the game well be! this game will surely show the true power of the PS3! i wonder if it will have a 5GB install or anything? ether way it will be a MUST HAVE for every PS3 owner!
Oh No... I won't be able to listen to a language I don't know...someone please help... lol. Not a big upset for me , but Iam glad they're filling up that blu-ray disk! Hopefully we'll see dual layers soon :D
So much for a port to the "other side"...
Anyway, I think I can live without the Japanese voice overs, thought it was fun. When MGS3 came out, I was actually living in Japan at the time.
wow, all those multi disk MGS4 Xbox jokes are atually true! lol
Release two discs
A little dissapointing but hey it's MGS the voice action has always been just fine in the english version anyway.but clearly he's hit the edge of the disk with all the things he's jammed into it and that can only be a good thing.
But one thing people, there's no confirmation that he was using the 50gb disk. as far as we know he was still using the 25gb disk and this is the reason why he wanted the 50gb disk.
I am not sure if they are talking about a 50 gig disc. Has any game been on a 50 yet? Why are so many people assuming that this is about 50 gigs worth of information.
What about European countries when you generaly have many languages on one disc? I'm thinking they maxed out just the 25gb and that Europe will get 50gb. So much space gets used as the data isn't compressed, well sometimes, its a good thing when its all uncompressed. If they wanted to Konami could have compressed the audio tracks to fit this in, unless they're donig this already just to get it on a 25gb disc. They compress data for 360 all the time cause DVD9 sucks.
I was dissapointed to see that the intro movie to the game Assassin's Creed on PS3 was very low quality and the sound is arwful. Ubi must of compressed it to fit on the DVD9 for 360 and just ported over the video to PS3? What gets me is that I'd seen the HD clip from IGN way before the games release and it is in way better quality.
Its more than likley the 25GB disc. The 50 GB cost more dont they? I dont think we will see 50GB games until next year when the movie companies have brought down the cost of the 50GB discs by releasing there movies on them.
what about the 4 layer blu with 100gb
thats cool with me just get it out here already
Fine by me, no more delays
@ Uncool
I honestly doubt. HAve you ever hear anime with enlish voice over's, plus japanese voice sound better.
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!this is flippin awesome!
Yeah Japanese voices are always better. No offense guys but American voice overs are almost always unrealistic. Im paying big bucks and have waited for ages for this game so I kind of expect the proper treatment here. I'd be cool with two disks - just get it done right.
well!!! i guess i'm not getting this peice of garbage then! * slaps myself across the face even though the sarcasm was blatant*
The japanese voices only sound better because the fact that you dont know the language makes it sound more dramatic. If you knew the language you would know when they screw up an inflection or fail to use enough emotion to convey a believable reaction.
MGS has always been a series that could bost high quality voice overs by some of the mose experienced professional english voice actors availible so there's really no reason to even need the japanese voices outside of curiosity... besides 90% of the case are American to begin with so why should they speak japanese unless the game takes place there?
man... now i'm never gona get his! * wakes up from a dream screaming*
but i agree with Alpha2
no" i'm really heart broken now that i can't hear the crappy japanese voice overs."sobs"" i don't even care. why would epople care if they don't even know the language???????? i could see a japanese person loving mgs series and don't know english. then i would understand. i'm not making fun of anyone. just saying this is pointless news. sorta but, still interesting.
David Hayter's voice = the shiznit.
25GB single layer.
damn it passed the 50G! this game is gonna be long..not lik i listen to the japanese i cant understand it anyways
To all of you asking about the size of the blu ray used .. IT'S 50 GB
Not runing out of space its just that these idiots use Single Layer 25Gb bluray.
Apparently 50GB is expensive for them
never reli thought about listening to the jap voices soo im not botherd.
Does anyone still believe that there will be a 360 version??
What percentage of American would actually play a Japanese voice-over version anyway??? Do you watch movies on your DVD or BD in other languages you can't understand?? Nope, I don't think the majority do!
i love the japonese voices! god already a 50gb!!! my god a game with 50gb.. this should be awsome!
Holy Frack. MGS4 is raping the 50gb space? HA! wow.
Side note, Lost Odyssey (360) uses 4 discs. (Dvds of course)
Does anybody really care?
I just want the game.
@alpha2
Exactly. How does the Japanese voiceover sound more authentic when the majority of the characters are Western? Solid Snakes voice is better with his American accent than the Japanese one. What if this game was developed in the US and had Japanese voice overs, who'd be asking yourself why is that? If Konami made a WWII games where US paratroopers land in France should the game come with Japanese voice over? There will be no need as how would it sound authentic with Japanese over US troops?
If Konami never put Japanese voice overs in the MGS games, no one would even be bothered and would never ask the question why the voice over isn't there.
its 25GB, i remember him saying he wants the 50GB but no where has it stated that he got the 50GB.
show a link stating he used the 50GB.
if u do a search in google for mgs4 50gb blu-ray you should be able to find the sites saying that he used a 50gb disc. kojima also told sony he wanted the 50gb from when the ps3 was announce.
and i agree bring out out the 100gb and 200gb discs!!!
psn id: gingo..... to be honest there is not really a point in having the diferent languages in different countries cos most people want to hear the game in their language and there language only
Not really, in the states we rather here JP voice actors more so then US ones. You can blame all the anime we watch. >_< But yes its an added bonus if you think about it and to the guys saying bring on the bigger BD's yeah good luck waiting for that. Until and RPG thats that massive will we really need a even bigger BD or rather the next GTAV game.
And the 360 fanboys wanted this....I'm gonna die of laughter
Oh my god, 50Gb ... MGS 4 will be awesome !
booooooooyaaahh! 60th
this will shut the xbots saying MGS4 is coming to the 360. this game is going to be great. ain't that botherd about the japanese voiceover
Isn't MGS 4 supposed to use the 50gb BR disc?If Kojima is running out of disc space on that one, then i have to say WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Edit:Hey PSU,could you guys get confirmation on which disc they are using for MGS 4?Since it is quite the heated topic right now.
who wants to hear the japanese anyway?
what a piss a55 story
If kojima productions used 25gb of blu ray disc space then xbox360 owners will still revive that mgs4 could come to the 360 on 4 or 3 discs + having dual audio. But it would be pointless having that its being released for its home system the ps3 this summer.
lmfao @ microsloth!
This game gonna destroy the 360.
wow.^ like that isn't totally off topic. dude if you are looking for referals go someplace else.
Dude it's Spam. No point telling the robot that posted it to go litter someplace else. This site is pretty poor and they can't afford to moderate it properly or put up original stories for that matter. Just repeats I've read elsewhere a few hours (sometimes a day or more) earlier. Anyway hope we dont start getting flooded with this spam now.
so if it all cant fit on a blu-ray disk....that would mean that if the game was released on the 360 they would only have a floating snake head, or an arm.lol
way to go filling up all the space on the disk :) GO blu!!!!
Studios are using 25GB Blu-rays. 50GB is a good place to store data but the single-layer read speed is slow enough. Add another layer and cut your speed by about half. I guarantee you that unless there is a decent solution for Blu-ray read speeds, devs will keep using 25GB Blu-rays. Killzone 2 is only using 25GBs.

Dave, can we get rid of comments 68-70? Thanks.
Not a really big deal, the voice acting in the game is really good anyways, but it would've been nice to hear the Japanese version also.
