BIA: Hell's Highway 'Realism' trailerRobert Garriott, CEO and President of NCsoft has elaborated on the company’s recent partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment, which will see a number of properties released on PlayStation 3 from 2008 onwards.
As detailed in a recent statement on the PlayNC.com website, Garriott stated, "We don’t want to limit ourselves to the PC, especially while the console market continues to grow by leaps and bounds with every new generation...and console makers want to get into the online space.”
Garriott attributed Sony’s online plans for the PS3 as the ideal opportunity for NCsoft to tackle the console market: “The ideal system would be an extremely capable, stable platform, with the best Internet connectivity and greatest freedom of web access and interaction available to the user," he explained.
"This combination of access, openness and ability to bring NCsoft to the console market is very attractive. In this case, we felt like Sony fit the bill."
Elsewhere, he also touched on plans for PSP, expressing interesting in taking advantage of connectivity features between the handheld console and PS3, though did not go into any specific detail. Furthermore, Garriott stated that the first product should arrive in time for the Christmas 2008 holiday season, and that the firm “won't just be porting our games over."
"We want to make new products using our current, popular intellectual properties that will take advantage of the console, specifically in terms of user interface, connectivity, and play styles," he said.
Lastly, Garriott confirmed that PS3 NCsoft games would include "traditional subscription models, micropayment systems and free-to-play games with membership options.”
Stay tuned for more developments on NCsofts plans for PS3 as they break.

Just give me Aion and the Guild Wars games, NCSoft. I know you won't disappoint me with new games, but that particular new game, Aion, I want it.
To Nuttah:
Lineage I II & III,
Guild Wars (and all its following games),
City of Heroes and City of Villains,
the coming Tobula Rasa,
the coming Aion...
among the more well-known of their games. And yes, strictly PC until now. I like them because in addition to making really fun games, they don't believe in subscription fees to play their games. [But I don't know about City of Heroes (Villains), not sure if they charge monthly subscription fees.] They believe expansion packs and micro-transactions are the way to go for MMOs.
psn id: gingo... they make such pretty nice MMORPGS lets see how they handle the console market though
nice, they are very experienced MMO developers, this is very good for PS3 camp.
Shame they ain't gonna do GW or City of Heroes/Villians would love to lay them on PS3...ah well, if they keep that kinda quality and launch a new IP i'll be happy...
Give me a Tabula Rasa-based game with PS3-level graphics and im there. As long as there is some better pricing and it's more than just an MMO.
I would so love Guild Wars on my PS3! I can only imagine that at 60FPS in 1080P
bring LINEAGE II please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
City of Ninjas!! Lol, well, it's new....
@nuttah: NCSoft is IMHO one of the better MMO publishers. They are responsible for the Lineage series, City of Heroes/Villains, Guild Wars (completely free subscription MMO), Dungeon Runners, and soon to be Tabula Rasa, which looks like it should be fantastic. Im really looking forward to whatever they have planned.
City of heroes/villians still follows the subscription model or I'd probably be playing it still today. Although Guild Wars on the other hand is a definite switch, trying to explore different avenues that will probably be the future of online multiplayer gaming in a massive sense. While it really just amounts to a fourplayer RPG that lets you play with friends it is free of charge outside of the purchase of expansions. If they choose to go this route with the rest of their games they will certainly gain fans fromthe Sony community.
f*** i hate buying a game then having to pay extra really pisses me off
So many online games, where do I go? I'm on WarHawk alot now. We've got Socom online coming along with another MMO game 'the Agency' NCSoft games and what ever SOE will bring. How do we spend time in HOME with all this?
<3 MMO's. cant wait for Tobula Rasa, there needs to be more Shooter MMO's.
@Debamf:
The Agency is by SOE, isn't it? And as for how we will spend time in Home with all of those, it's simple--we use Home to launch those games, so that we can use Home, and when we're done, we're still in Home. Besides, before I even get any of those games, I'll be spending my time in Home. When we all get into Home, I'll see you there.
