Sony has confirmed that the redesigned PlayStation Store will no longer make use of the PlayStation 3’s dedicated web browser.
Set to launch later this month, the revamped store is a direct response to consumer feedback on the current PAL design (although the store is scheduled to be revamped in North America, too) According to Eurogamer, a Sony spokesperson commented, "It will cache all images properly and is much faster than the old one.”
Furthermore, the store "will require everyone to upgrade to 2.30 [firmware]," which Sony has yet to detail.
For more information on the restructuring of the PS Store, along with the first screenshots, head over to our earlier news story here.

Please let 2.30 be a little more than for just this. YOU guys know what I mean...
2.30? wait a minute.........you don't think..............? naaaaaaa!

2.30??? That has to be.......or is it???...........YES!!!!!!
Actually.. In game messeging has been confirmed for 2.40 ... being the firmware update after 2.3 :P... atleast thats what the sony guy said,.. But it does give you some sort of validation its not far away .. you guys who looks forward to it.
staude, you just ruined it for the people
I wonder that with it not using the web browser anymore, will we be able to listen to the music that on our HDD while in the store.. That would be nice... And Stop trying to hype up IN game cause from what everyone's hear from offical Sony personel is that its suppose to come in FW 2.4!!
Sounds awesome, really good that it will load quicker! :P
yeah, I didn't know the PS Store used the browser either. Don't ask me how it worked, because I don't know. I guess it used the browser!
When will they update the browser? or even better tie in with someone like Apple to use the Safari browser??
wonder what else will be in 2.30 other than the store update....wud be gud if they put in game messaging earlier than 2.40 but thy better put some new stuff then
Nope this will not contain XMB or HOME so you can stop dreaming now
So much for the good news, the bad news : no more updates to the store until the new ps store is launched.
I like the store but find it a little slow at times and every great once in a while will lock up. All in all I like it though and gald to hear that it will be faster.
I didn't knew the store ran on the webbrowser. Hmmm. No aprils fool? Hmmm...
That's good, the current one is so slow..
I agree a little slow at times, and btw what does Pal and DLC mean ? I see people slinging those abbreviations everywhere.
psn id: gingo.... the current ps store was designed for a mouse instead of a controller so i'm glad they have taken that into consideration and will make this more smoother and easier to use
Wow, posts 1-4 really beat around the bush for that one. And yes, the PS Store uses the web browser. Look at the confirmation screen when you exit.
Anyway, I guess this is a good thing. If they can integrate the PS Store to the XMB, then they may have found a way to better manage XMB's memory and allow a decent trial run for in-game XMB. No, I;m not hoping for the feature this time around, just that if they can put the store there, they must be able to do other things as well.
I didn't know that the PS Store used the PS3's web browser, but the PS Store seemed a lot similiar to the web browser though. I can't wait to experience the new PS store.
yup didn't know that store is based on ps3 web ha ha and the current store is kindo slow and difficult
I can't wait that just made my April fools day!
PSN: DarkJ3JB
looking forward to the new design. ive never experienced any slowness to the current store though.
I want HOME and XMB to come already, not so much to use it, because I'm not too interested in either. But so I can stop hearing people ask for it!
2.30 is only a bit higher than the current firmware, so I wouldn't expect "it" to come, but hopefully I'm wrong :)
The new store should be really fast and easy to use. I'm very happy Sony has redisigned the store to make it better for it's consumers.
