A new advertising campaign for the PS3 is set to launch this weekend to coincide with the introduction of the 40GB console in North America.
Peter Dille, VP of Marketing at SCEA, revealed the information as a "reward" to "loyal fans" on PlayStation.Blog.
Having highlighted the power of their next-gen console in previous ad campaigns, these new ads will show off the high energy, entertainment driven focus of the PS3, with the lower priced console now on the market, together with an increasingly impressive array of games. And it won't just focus on the HD quality games, but also the Blu-ray movie capability, along with a major focus on PlayStation network and the exclusive content available on PlayStation Store.
With new innovations and ideas coming out of the PS3 all the time, the ad itself will show the icons and characters of the PS3 world coming to life and nearly burst open, as if to show just how much the console can do - it doesn't just play games, you know.
A 60 second advert will showcase the console's multi functional capabilities and kicks off the whole advertising campaign.
A 30 second advert will feature some of the most recent and highly anticipated first-party titles such as Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
It was also revealed that more spots are under development and will be revealed as soon as they are finished.
Dille is hopeful that this will signal the start of a PS3 boom. He said: "As we head into November we couldn’t be more excited. We have the 40GB PS3 “officially” launching tomorrow at a price point that will appeal to a wider audience and the 80GB PS3 which is demonstrating phenomenal sales growth since we announced the $499 price point. Add to that the inflow of great games and a PS3 brand campaign — our largest ever behind a hardware platform — and we think it’s going to be a great holiday season for PS3."
The 40GB PS3 officially launches in North America on 1st November.

finally sony has a add compaign its usually just the occasional wierd baby commercial that i rarely see. I see a lot more 360 and wii commercials this is the only way more people are going to find put about the system because not everybody goes to these websites and forums, im confident that this will be extremely effective
hands down the best console ads i have ever seen. Good jop Sony good jop. Clap, Clap, Clap.
I watched these ads on sony's website... They are so awesome! Plus they show off the great games that are out and that are coming soon, and ps store and ps home... About time sony made some good ads! :)
i can't wait to see the mountains of PS3 in the middle of bestbuy, target, etc.....!!!.....
Aratacus, I say to you. You are so ignorant. Flame somewhere else. Everybody but Americans can see the light in the PS3. Europe, Asia, UK, Australia, Japan, etc. Thats why the Ps3 is outselling the 360 in in every territory but the U.S.A. But not for long. I believe Microsoft has shown all their cards and have nothing left to show for 2008/2009. Once the AAA games come to PS3 soon, the momentum will shift to PS3 in America. Thats a fact. The key to selling a console is give consumers dynamite content and putting it within reach of the average consumer. Which sony has finally done with the $399.00 SKU. The dynamite content storm has just begun.
Nice!
@Aratacus: Shut up you ignorant f***. Don't you have to go talk to MS's tech support for your 360s "issues?"
Lovrboi, please don't put all Americans together in one group. I've been a PS supporter since the PSOne and still am. I haven't owned any consoles Microsoft has put out. I love my PS3.
Just don't be hypocritically ignorant and put all Americans in one basket.
This holiday season was always in sony;s favour. the ps3 had the best game lineup and its future was looking bright. Ive always said they needed more tv ads now they do, i cant wait to see them.
They do no advertising at all in Australia. PS-What? Oh well...
Okay...?
Well if the new Ads are far from this "This is living" thing then it must be good - I mean the basic idea of "This is living" was not bad at all, but the ads were horrible, if you remember the hotel ad with the grenade and all this weird stuff - you just think: wtf?? :/
These ads are rly displaying the PS3 itself and what it can do. That's how an ad has to be!
psn id: gingo... the ps3 needs some decent adverts and this is a brillient start these would make anyone seriously think about buying one
WOW those ads! And I eaven spotted the new Playstation Network Loggo that was patented not for so long ago! Great work Sony!
There it is! They're finally getting the advertising in gear. I'll be interested to see the results of this about 6 months down the line.
g day boys hope u are lost lost to me lost lost lost lost lost lost
And I couldn't be more happy for them. =) Sony bring on the good times.
Sony is finally firing on ALL cylinders now!!!
