New Warhawk SKU drifts to the US

Posted on October 2nd, 2007 at 13:21 EDT

Warhawk fans will mostly likely know that there are currently two ways to purchase the multiplayer-only game.

The first option is to download the game via PlayStation Network for $39.99. While that may be cheap, gamers must take into consideration that only the user account with which the game was downloaded under may be granted access to play it on the given PS3 console. Also, the game is stationary meaning that it can not be taken anywhere like a normal hardcopy, unless you are willing to drag (airlift?) the PS3 to your destination. The second is to purchase the game from a store the old fashion way, allowing you more freedom than the downloadable version. The Blu-ray version sells for $59.99 and comes equipped with a Bluetooth headset.

However, as confirmed to the Level Up Blog, later this month PlayStation 3 gamers will have a third option to purchase Warhawk. An SCEA rep revealed that you'll be able to buy a hardcopy at a store for $39.99, but without the Bluetooth headset. This leaves little reason to purchase the downloadable version.

Currently this stands only for the US market as there has not been any official word if it will also take place in Europe or elsewhere around the world.

Warhawk is an intense multiplayer game that utilizes air and ground combat with up to 32 players. Players may battle it out in a range of games such as Team Deathmatch, Territories Mode, and Capture the Flag.

I already bought it from the PS Store and I couldn't be happier with it, but this is definitely a good option for people waiting for price drops.

Ah well, I paid $40 for the PS Store. I guess thats the problem with getting it at launch. Not that I have any problem with it, I love the game.

I got mine on the PSN store, and am happy with it, with the download version you don't have to worry about lost or damaged disc..

Why couldn't they decide to do this earlier? I already had a headset before I bought Warhawk. I spent 60$ for the game and a headset when now I could've bought the game for 40$ without the headset!? Wow...

i got the download version, because i have a "copy" of the game for the rest of my PS3's life....there, in my download list, no straching, no leaving the couch(lol).. the whole account thing is a minor inconveniance, but i already bought the JAbra BT 125 back in december 06.... this is good though... seems like the whole mic thing didn't help to get people to use a mic anyway....

Variety is the spice of life,...or so I've been told. As far as the Jabra being a piece of crap.....? I dont know said  that. I've been using it for the last 3 weeks and its sweet! Cnet gives it a good rating. Users sometimes expect too much.

Why would anyone PREFER the blu ray version? The game is only 700 MB which has to be installed to HDD anyway! If you delete it by mistake you can download it again for free. Am I missing something? Is it better to have to load a disc each time you want to play? At first I was disappointed because I had to buy a headset separately ($40), but the convenience of the PSN version makes it the better choice IMO.
