According to MacRumors.com, John Carmack took the stage at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday 11th of June to proudly demonstrate id's secret new game engine for the first time.

The exhibition is said to have entailed an “insanely detailed world” made up of 20GB of textures with which developers have an unparalleled level of control over, manipulating everything as they wish without compensating game performance.

Considering this presentation was organized in only 10 days we can wait for id to show us what their new engine can really do at E3 next month, so until then were holding our breaths in anticipation.
