psn id: gingo... this is no surprise to me as having 2 price cuts so close to each other seems desperate so this news shouldn't surprise anyone

Yeah, I don't expect another price cut till maybe just before christmas or even the end off this fiscal year (a.k.a Around march 2008)

Guys M$ said that there will be one more price cutt to 399$ but don´t trust them! They want everybody to wait to buy the 40 GB that's not coming and stop PS3 outselling 360 in north america!

They just wanna keep it a surprise thats all.

Yeah there's no way they would charge us 100$ more for the 80gig system when the 60gig runs out. There will be another price cut when that happens.

I can see Sony cutting the price of the 80GB model to $499 after the 60GB's stock sells out. But they wouldn't be offering the 80GB with the free game like they plan right now.

they said they wouldn't lower it any further then the 100, well after the 60 gigs go out, they will lower the 80 gig to that price point, and technically they didn't lie lol, they arn't going any lower then what they already have lol

The 80GB will get the 100$ price cut when the 60GB sells through. Then they will release a 120GB version for 599

Raiw's Post = FUD. There is no 40gb system in the works M$ knows nothing about any sony plans and are horrible at guessing them otherwise they'd have seen the 80gb strategy comming which they did NOT. At this moment in time there are NO plans for a Price drop on the 80gb model which has yet to ship and chances are they may not at all but come December when the 60gb stock is expected to run out the 80gb SKU MAY, with HARD emphasis drop 50-100 dollars depending on the number of games available. Consider for a moment that they absolutoly have no plans to drop the system price, this is possible but they would wait until the last moment to fake out the competition. Prehaps this might be seen as lying but ultimately it's a lie made in the consumers favor as it provides the product many are interested in at a much better price. On the other hand should they NOT reduce the price at all I'm sure it's been strategized in a way to offer more value to the consumer regardless though other incentival means. Such as pushing the benefits of Home which will be out by then and extolling the virtues of their free online network and first party software line up as well as the slowly growing list of 3rd party titles with limited exclusivity. /// The PS3 is a better value it's just a matter of displaying it in the best way possible.

I don't see why they are doing 60G/80G...the HDD is easy enough to change....make the 60GB...if they want/need more GB, let them upgrade themselves and leave the price alone.

I think It was a nice move to lower the 60GB just to push those consoles out there, but I dont think we will see a price cut for the 80GB until at least mid 08.

No brainer - Sony is not going to tell everyone that the PS3 with 80GB hard drive and rumble controller is going to cost $499 with a bundle for Christmas. They need to dump all the old stock first. Does the 80GB drive cost more to manufacture than the 60GB drive? Really? How much did a 40MB hard drive cost in 1991? What about a 300Mb drive in 1994? or a 2GB drive in 1997? What about a 40GB drive in 1999? How much was a 160GB drive in 2003? What about the 750GB drive in 2006 ? How much is the new 1TB drives released this year? ANSWER: They all sell at the same price. Seagate & WD will sell the 80GB inventory to Sony at the same cost as the 60GB model. They cost the same to manufacture. In 1 or 2 years the 120GB / 160GB drives will cost Sony the same as the 80GB drive. PS3 will ship with 80GB and 120GB capacities and the 80GB model will go to $399 if sales are not good at Christmas. That is a no brainer.
