Own a Mac? PS3 streaming is no problem

Posted on January 8th, 2008 at 14:05 EDT

Nullriver has released a program called, MediaLink Solution which will now allow you to flawlessly stream media from your Mac laptop or desktop.

Mac users are known to have difficulties streaming to their PlayStation 3 consoles.  There have been several options released for this including Twonkyvision.  Unlike most streaming aids for the Mac users, MediaLink will enable you to organize folders any way you’d like to.  This will give you a lot more flexibility in how you’d like things to look including the ability to have album art.  This nifty program does cost money, which is obviously a concern; however, they are allowing a trail period for their software.

Of course, everything great usually has one downside.  With MediaLink Solution, you may experience difficulty with the AAC and M4A formats.  Most people will more than likely not care about this issue though.

Here are some of the features this program comes with:

Beautiful album art & previews
MediaLink automarically displays your album art, photo and video previews on your PlayStation 3.

iTunes integration
With MediaLink's flawless iTunes integration, getting to your songs on your PlayStation 3 is just as easy as it is on your Mac. Find any song, album or artist with ease in the Mac-like navigation system provided by MediaLink. MediaLink also conveniently shares your Playlists, Podcasts and Videos to your PlayStation 3.

Made a change to your Playlists? No problem, MediaLink will pick it up automatically in a few seconds and reflect that change on your PlayStation

HD video streaming
Make your PlayStation 3 your home media center. MediaLink can stream high definition video content to your living room with ease!

Continue movies from where you left off or fast forward and rewind, all effortlessly using your PlayStation 3 and MediaLink.

Organize your way
Don't use iTunes or iPhoto? Do you have media stored outside your libraries? No problem! MediaLink has full folder organization support. MediaLink can easily locate music, photos and videos in any folder on your Mac and even preview it and collect ID3 information from your songs.

iPhoto in vivid HD
With MediaLink, you can view your iPhoto photo library and slideshows on your television screen, they're especially beautiful in vivid high definition.

Browse by photo album, event or watch a slideshow to the tune of your favorite song, its all easy and fun! Want some motion? Watch your iPhoto videos too!

What formats are supported?
MediaLink supports all the formats that the PlayStation 3 supports, excluding DRM protected content, including: MP3, WMA, WAV, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, H.264, AVI, WMV & ASF, DIVX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, BMP and more.

So what? if you don't have anything constructive to say about topic...don't bother typing "first post"

I understand if you are 12 and hopefully by 18 you will get it how childish you are.

Sometimes people want to read other opinions and what you see here "first post"

Fricken awesone, I agree a bit of a surprise, but this is exactly what I'm looking for. I've tried eyeConnect with very little luck, Mediatomb with some luck but sometimes doesn't run in terminal properly. I don't mind paying $20 for something that will work as it says...I'll be trying it out in abit. PS The trial is only 30mins which is not much of a trial at all, but oh well, at least its something I suppose

Wow, bodiroga, you're a big hypocrite.  I see you added so much to the discussion...

Anyway, this is a nice feature and all, but I don't own a Mac (but secretly hope to get a Mac and put Linux on as well).

Thats pretty thoughtful for them to include mac users. Sony always seems to go out of there way to make their consumers happy.

Of course, everyone knows that you can already do much of the same thing by putting the content on your iPod and then walking over to your PS3 and plugging it into the USB port. I did this not expecting anything and was amazed when album art popped up on the PS3 screen. I clicked on one and got my iTunes music played on my hi-end sound system. Pretty nifty if you ask me,
