Sweet... cause I think many of my friends didn't catch 2.4, which frustrated me when they wouldn't respond to messages because they were in the middle of a game. Oh well, thats over now :)

my 2.40 has been running smooth since launch but good that sony  responded quick to the crisis

These were my issues after 2.40:

My PS3 didn't brick.  It would no longer function if an application (Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray game, downloaded game, Audio CD or DVD) did an online check of any kind before starting.  For example, if you put a CD in your PS3, it does the CDDB check to see if it can find the info, right?  Well that would crash my PS3.  Starting GT5:P crashed my PS3, too.  The trophies worked fine (I got 2 before I found out about my issues).

I called Sony.  No help.  They wanted me to send it in (I have a MGS 80GB).  Figuring I had nothing to lose, I formatted the HDD, losing everything.  Started from the beginning.  The 2.40 FW was still in effect (of course), and I got my application/internet functionality back (IOW, my CD's worked without crashing the system, YAY!).  I was relieved, but it wasn't over.   I started to play SSHD again for trophies.  Remember how I said I had 2 already (clearing the first two planets)?  Well, I cleared the third one on arcade (and a few other trophy-tasks) and still only have 2 trophies.  It won't update.  I downloaded 2.41 and now I am going to work.  I'll let you guys know if it worked if you are interested.

How the hel is this old news when its was only released this morning. You could have only known about this a few hours ago and just because you knew about it before it came up doesnt mean its old news.

Lol, I think he's just joking, man.  Richkaos was the first to post that 2.41 was up on the "2.40 may be fixed this week" rumor thread.  He was actually how I found out it was there on my way to work.  But yeah, that is annoying when people do that on message boards.  At least give it 24 hours.  Wasn't 2.40 out for a whole day?   Look at how many people didn't get it.  You can't stay jacked in all the time.

i hav no trophies............wtf    and no ingame music.........this sucks

odium if only you had been more patient you wouldnt have lost everything and your trophies would be working fine noyl yourself to blame!

2.40 worked fine for me I imagine it was a small minority that it happened to, sorry for those it did happen to. The one thing I don't understand is if these PS3s are all built the same, then why do some have problems and others do not? Is it to do with the data on each individual's PS3 or does the firmware come corrupt when downloading sometimes?

BTW have a look at the platinum trophy it looks different now on 2.41

when i was copying 2.40 to the ps3, my ps3 stoppedat 69% and said it was corrupt...guess that saved my butt! now i can get this update : )

@ Nate Drake and to anyoe who wonders or has not read previous articles.

In game music is not going to be universal for PS3 games, it is up to the developers to implement this feature or to create a patch for previous games. Only SSHD and Burnout (soon) will implement the feature. I have heard Warhawk may implement it and I know Konami wanty to implement it for MGS4.

As for In game cross chat I have heard nothing as yet but I know Lempel suggested that cross game invites will be implemented. Though you may have to wait for the XMB to get  updated in another 2 years to get these features lol.

when first i finished to downloading 2.41.  my ps3 freezs on my game few second few times but now it's working fine :)

Only the tools for ingame music are in the tool set for devs to do it easy now. So in the new games coming out if a dev wants to put in-game music then they can do it easy now. So most games up till this point don't do it needless to say.

Odium_Generis_Humani i had the same problem ....GT 5 P crashed my ps3  and  i loss all my data on  my 60gig hdd....40 dollar game reuin my 600 dollar system...anyway i have already have 2.40 firmware  with no problems but i am still gunna download 2.41 since its out there....

 i got it, and its working fine. i missed out on update 2.40 but i guess that was a good thing. 

mine is working fine but r they ever goin to put trohpies in good games like warhawk or gutiar hero games like that not dumb ones like stardust HD or wut ever the its called

when i exited my web browser while listening to music from the harddrive. it completely like froze. it had the thing at the top right that said it was loading something and i waited a couple of minutes but it didn't go away. this didn't happen to me when i did the same thing in 2.40

while i was downloading the 2.41 firmware it stopped and said it couldnt find a server or w/e. y does it do dat?

this new update won't do nothing for as console that was "bricked" right? is the only solution still to reformat the hard drive? thanks in advance for the help.

K i need help with this fimrware. i downloded this firmire 100% but then when it searches this file  to intall it says data corrupted. and just now my bro said it worked but then when he was intalling it it said an error occured. this has never happenend. im using a wired connection and its pretty fast. so now i just contacted technical support and we have to send it in now to get checked.

all this fuss over an update i didnt need lol thats my story.

Okay guys, I was the sad case listed in post #13.  I came back to say that after all that, 2.41 solved all my issues...back to normal!

OK after talking to a tech associate I just happened to clean all the ports on the back (just by blowing the dust out) and the firmware working fine.  I dont have to send it in now YES!

accessed the xmb while playing the quake demo and it froze the ps3. also i can't get online with quake 4, it disconnects me from ps3 then says ethernet cord is not plugged in. i think this is a buggy demo though.

its up and running so im good for now

In game music only works on games that support it. It's up to developers to make a patch. Sony just gave them the option to do it.

Well I never had a problem with 2.40, but its good that Sony was able to quickly fix the problems that some machines did have with the updated 2.41. Nice one Sony!

In game music does work if the game is updated for it - try it out on PAIN!  Not the best game, but it shows that you can create a play list and stuff from the music on your hard drive.  Played it whilst listening to some WuTang, made it much more fun!

I'm amazed at how many people don't seem to know how the in-game music works (or, doesn't work as it were).  The fact that a game has to be patched to make it work was part of the all the official (and unofficial) announcements on the update.  I had arguements with people on this very web site not 3 weeks ago about how limited the XMB access would be when it hit.  I don't understand what some of you see when you read these articles.  It was clear there would be no in-game music at first.  Thing is, it's probably NEVER coming for most of this current wave of games.  Practically NO ONE seems to be saying that.  It might not even be part the next wave of games, unless you are cool with more delays.  How would you like that?  I can see the headlines (and the whining) now: "Killzone 2 pushed back again for in-game XMB funtionality"!  SOCOM was probably delayed for this very reason, you never know.

I guess I will have to download this again considering I cancelled it the first time after seeing what the original did.

Games up until this point could assume that the sound device was completly free, that no other program or game was using it.

Playing / Streaming heavily compressed music (like MP3), also takes some CPU power and RAM away from games that expected to have full access (other then the small kernel of RAM that the GameOS kernel uses).

If Sony had gone and completly changed this, pulled the rug out from under the developers feet, so they all have to go back and try and see if there is any time or place in their game that could be affected by this, they would have a riot.

Since this feature is really useless (it really is) Sony chose the best, safest path, and let the developers decide.

Is anyone having same problem than I use not original theme for my ps3 after 2.41 I get question marks where playlist icon and where trophy icon must be there too.

I just finally had time to update my PS3 to this latest version and it works great!
