Namco Bandai has responded to reports that the PlayStation 3 version of its upcoming fighter Soul Calibur IV will include a mandatory install of 6.5GB, labelling the claims as “overblown.”
Speaking to Kotaku, the publisher stated, "Those numbers are not accurate and are significantly overblown," adding, “The actual amount of space for the Soulcalibur IV install and save data file are inline with other games requiring this feature."
Soul Calibur IV is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America on July 29, with a European release following on August 1.
PS3 owners can look forward to an exclusive appearance by Star Wars antagonist, Darth Vader, while Xbox 360 gamers will be treated to Jedi Master Yoda as a playable character.
Stay tuned for more coverage on this highly anticipated fighter in the near future.

Well "other games requiring this feature" is usually 5 gigs, right?
I bet any money that its 5GB.
wtf?
We'll see what happens
5gb confirmed ?
Ok, cool, but what about Kratos???!!
Can someone explain to me why almost every ps3 game needs such a large install?? Don't we have a 50 gig blueray disk for a reason?? Fairly soon I'm gonna run out of hdd space if each game I buy requires 5 gigs!
If you are running out of HD space on your PS3 there is a brilliant feature built in called DELETE, lets face it you prpbably have loads of game demos that you havent touched or even knew you had for ages, just delete them! I free'd up 15GB the other day getting rid of old toot. And the reason some games have a large install is to improve load times and integrate visual cut scenes etc
" Don't we have a 50 gig blueray disk for a reason??"
Actually the blu-ray discs are the reason for the installs... there is so much space on the disc that it would take a significant amount of time to fetch things off of the disc if it were just streaming files like it can on a smaller DVD. So if there weren't installations on a lot of these games, you could run in to some hefty texture popins and load times.
the disc is to hold the game, the system reads off the disc but this can take time, so if some of the data is put on the hdd then its easier for the system to read it and faster, sooooooo shorter load times. 360 would be doing the same but they have that core system which has no hdd so devs have to make the games so they can play on a system without a hdd, thus no installs.
I'm never one to complain about the installs or anything, but I'm just wondering - why did we have no installs when the PS3 first came out? Pretty much all first generation games had no installs. There were only like 2 games. Now literally every game has one. I'm just wondering.
We really need to be able to install our games to the external harddrive.
@ Girugamesh - Yeah, Resistance Fall of Man used 256Mb and Motorstorm used around 300Mb and those games rock.
Lets just hope that Resistance 2 doesn't have massive install sizes, cause 1 ran fine.
Wow, thats a big chunk!
I have 11 gigs left from a 60gig PS3, and mosy of that is demos which i often play and movies!
That's one of the reasons I might not get this game
Call me ignorant, but isn't 5Gigs (unconfirmed) a bit steep for a Fighter? I can understand it for games like MGS4 or Devil May Cry that have huge levels, but for Soul Calibur, that's pretty heavy.
im new here but 5 gigs is just good for a good fighting game either way most games arelike that also
People are just afraid of losing massive HD space in the end. But then again when's the last time you've heard a fighting game requiring a massive install? Just imagine how much a rpg would do like FF then your worries are nil.
i'm not a fan of fighting games no more but it looks like we have the better jedi.
The better Sith you mean :P
Yeah! It's 6.4GB, get it right! Some people, I swear, trying to blow things out of proportion.
actually the TOTAL space will be 8.5GB 6.5 from the install and 2 for the gamesave and stuff related to saving... so yeah...o/...
LOL
this is pissin me off, its a video game system , i don wanna install it like a pc
The thing is, the PS3 is technically a computer and as such installing is nothing but a norm. But seriously is installing really scaring you guys?
@Hedgie09
On the fact that you brought up Motorstorm, do you remember the load times in that game? They were horrendous. I would much rather install a bit of data than sit through that again
Buying it anyway.
I just think it's a bit much for a fighter like this to have an install of that size... But as for the actually installing of games I don't really mind it that much.... Just worried about how much space FFXIII will take... Can you imagine?
think its funny people whine about installs on the ps3. guess they need to find something to whine about. Its very easy to change out the hdd on a ps3 with a 250+ one and dosent void the warrenty. Easier to patch an install and update it than a disk and access from HDD is faster rather have big installs
