Take a look at Mirror's Edge's upcoming demoSony is always looking forward to ideas that will innovate and progress the industry from a videogame standpoint, to an electronic perspective as a whole. The PlayStation 3 and even PSP are prime examples of this as they both perform a number of functions outside of their core videogame purposes.
Sony continues to further this trend as Sir Howard Stringer, Sony CEO, explained to a Tokyo audience that the Remote Play feature is just the beginning of the PlayStation3’s external connectivity service.
Based on Bloomberg news, it is said that Stringer plans to ultimately link the PS3 with mobile phones and a number of other indeterminate electronic devices. That alone has created more credibility of the rumor that Sony is planning a PlayStation brand phone, much like the Sony Bravia TV branded mobile phone.
"PlayStation Network next year puts us in the direct line of fire with Apple and Microsoft," Stringer tells the Reuters news service, also hinting that next year will be a big year for PSN in terms of content:
“On Friday, we had a dinner where the heads of Sony Electronics, [Sony] Pictures, Sony BMG, and Sony PlayStation were all at the same dinner table intermingled and actually communicating," he said.
The proposed external PS3 connectivity will be part of the 3-year business plan set by Sony, which will begin April 1, 2008, which is also the start of Sony’s next fiscal year.

Cool, I'm getting my PSP next week, Can't wait to test out the remote play.
A little harsh. At some point, you just have to accept the fact that PSU isn't IGN or Gamepro. My guess is that they're just a bunch of guys in a low rent studio or even working from home. I can't see anyone at PSU making a whole lot of money, if any at all. They're probably just a bunch of gamers who wanted to run a website.
That was good news!
Its clear where Sony is taking the PS3. Into no Games land.
psn id: gingo... i hope they extend compatibility to all sony ericsson phones and not just the rumoured playstation becasue i'm getting the W960i and i want that to be compatible aswell
I'd be happier to have more PSN content if I had a way to buy it.
If only there were prepaid cars Sony *Hint hint*
@Supra how could you say they taking us into no games land when they releasing tons of games and is already claiming 2008 as year of the ps3. There going to be so many games that you probably have to pick to pick 1 AAA game from another.
@saso_7
Wow, maybe you should be on another site...
@ BabeBro
You really are not missing out on much. Remote play is cool, IF you like to view some PS3 content a couple of yards away from your PS3. People have not really gotten it to work away from their personal Wifi area.
remote play is so advanced and nothing is like it, i love it and cant wait to see what sony is coming up with next. AN improved PSN is awesome.
I love remote play! I always use it and it works fine for me in any wifi location, but the internet needs to be fairly fast, at least dsl but thats not a big problem nowadays. I have my computer wirelessly connected through the mediaplayer extension so i can have access to all my videos and music on my computer routed through my ps3 and through remote play to my psp! i hope that most of you can understand what I said haha. Whatever happened to that ps3 tv recorder? That would be nice if that is still in their plans but you never know.
The problem is that even though we all know the PS3 is a game machine Sony is trying to prove that it's MORE than just that. Individuals that bought it more for it's game elements feel like there's not enough focus on that because this third place situation requires a harder fight than the PS2 had. They need to do twice as much as they're doing now to pull out of third and they're only just squeeking by.
They wanted to do this in a 10 year span but you cant when your competition is as strong as it is right now. You have to push like you only have 3 or 4 years and when you last 10 years you chalk it up to early momentum. The PS2 lasted 7 years and counting because it kicked as$ in the first 3 and stayed consistant, The PS3 risks wasting momentum in the first three and never fully hitting its stride until it's time to switch to a new platform and that just hurts the NEXT system.
I dont mind all the other stuff they're doing with the system multimedia wise. It's great and awesome and stuff but it's not making any differeance in the market that it was originally intended to be a presense in and that's Games. Yes we've got games on the shelf now and more on the way but they need to be a bit more forceful about getting the gaming message out so the people complaining about these things dont feel unappreciated.
what
Oh yah..........................2008 could be the year that content starts to flood the PSN network!
I read this days ago in the newspaper....
Hmm they sure have a lot on there plates in terms of multimedia. Doing all thes things is no easy feat.
I'll believe this when I see it. Much the same was said about PS2 with "visions" of it running all you household appliances, but that never materialised. I think the resource would be better spent on improving the gaming experiance... better peripherals etc, 3D, VR...
@saso
This news is all other the place in other gaming and even non-game related sites.
You don't see much news on IGN anyway and that's why I come in here more because I like to read anything PS3 or Sony related.
