Dark Sector Devs lending hand in BioShock DevelopmentSony can look forward to a successful holiday season this year and even well into 2008. With that being said, the PlayStation 3 should see considerable growth. However, Sony might not be the only one benefiting from the next-generation console.
Gamestop, the worldwide leader in videogame retail could become the one who benefits greatly from the success of the PlayStation 3 in 2008; Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes that with the help of the PS3 exclusives in early 2008, GamesStop’s shares should see significant growth.
”We also expect a 20% comp in the January 2008 quarter due to the introduction of a new $399 PS3, which should drive a significant amount of traffic GameStop's way this holiday," Pachter commented.
Pachter believes that the new USD 399 40GB PlayStation 3 will be enough to warrant more sales for GameStop but it doesn’t start there. In 2008, there will be a significant amount of PS3 exclusives, which could further more not only drive sales for Sony, but for GameStop as well.
"The shift of GTA IV along with other top titles expected next year (such as Gran Turismo HD, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, and Final Fantasy XIII) should provide an opportunity for GameStop to deliver double-digit comps through the April 2008 quarter, and we are revising our April comp estimate to 13%, reflecting very high expected software sales growth during that quarter."
As you may see, all of those games mentioned (except GTA IV which is multi-platform) are PS3 exclusives. Three of those 4 games are well known franchises and gamers will instantly recognize them. While the Xbox 360 will slow down a bit after Mass Effect, the PlayStation 3 will deliver well into 2008 and beyond.
I know a lot of people would say that the employees at GameStop are huge PS3 haters, however, after they see the money that the PS3 is making for them, their stance will expectantly change.

It's funny how exaggerated AAA titles MGS4 and FFXIII is. If an analyst believes that these two titles alone will sell PS3s, then that's not new. MGS4 I'll believe sell systems like Halo 3 before it, but FFXIII could flop either way. I stopped caring for FF right after FFXII cause that one sucked loudly. As for the haters part, I don't know if it's the brass flexing their muscles on the grunt workers or the employees truly believe the PS3 sucks, cause the latter surely doesn't make sense from a business perspective since they lose sales more often. I don't shop at Gamestop ever cause they suck all-together.
it's not going to change anytime soon. especially when they're so busy trying to scare people away from PS3. I think they're also trying to get people to sell them their systems so they can make even MORE money selling them used... probably on Ebay under a fake name to keep from looking like they're selling PS3s.
Again this is Pachter, the guy has some of the lamest predictions. Most self respecting PS3 owners should be shopping ANYWHERE else besides that hole.
Gamestop should enjoy their revenues and business model while it lasts. The lifespan of their model is finite. Digital Distribution will turn them into "Antique Game Stop"

@ Fantasy Star... Its really hard to sit down and think of a full/true (aka..not spin offs) FF that has flopped. Even though you thought FF12 was weak, guess what...you bought it and so did a million others. FF are one of those rare titles that one will always want to experience for themselves, no matter what review it gets. FF will move many consoles my friend.... (look what the FF7 CC did for the PSP..and thats a spin off). Time will tell it all..
They'll still be haters. Every time I go into that store they're trying to get me to buy something Xbox. No thanks. Do they know something I don't? What's with Final Fantasy helping them before April?

Hehe Gamestops as PS3 "haters." Not all of them are though. Some are plain retarded (in which you point and laugh repeatedly). In any case, yes of course you can expect growth with any retailer with the move Sony made with the price drops across their consoles.
This would be nice if I gave a damn about GameStop. The only people I ever see work there are 360 fanboys so I just go to BestBuy. GS tries to cheat you when you resell a game to them. They tried to buy my original Tomb Raider for $0.75. Guess what I told them...
good news for gamestop, and sony, the exclusives are what drive the buyers to the store and the system so this should have a really nice outcome.
We don't have GameStop down under, but EB is their sista shop (?!?) and MOST of their sales staff are retards and couldn't give 5h!t about you! They just wanna sell you anything they can and try to make you believe crap games are great (eg. Sonic on PS3)! Get real, do I look like a 4 year old?? (hmmm...toddlers probably feel the same!?)
