Part Two: Missing PS3 titles - Have you seen me?Sony now understands the importance of online gaming to the consumer. Online gaming drives the gamers’ experience beyond the core value of the game to higher goals, thus, creating replay-value. This is why Sony is creating an innovative Home system which will push industry standards for online interactivity. What Sony has not mastered yet is an “achievements system” similar to the one available for Xbox 360 users in which gamers are awarded points for task completed in a game online or offline. Sony’s Eric Lempel believes that they have the perfect ingredient to surpass Microsoft’s achievement system in every way.
"I recognise that there are a few features that PS3 users have asked for that we haven't delivered yet. We have a lot of features in different stages of development that I think our users will be very excited about,"
"I know that an achievement system is very important to our consumers. With Home, and in addition to Home, we have some very exciting programs planned to recognize our consumers' gaming skills and loyalty in new ways that go well beyond a single score.
Howard Stringer, Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe CEO explains, "2008 will be a big year in many ways for PlayStation Network."
Perhaps the Game Developers Conference next month in San Francisco will be a haven for new information regarding this and of course, PSU will have you fully covered.
First post. Great news, I really want to see moe great features!
It would be awesome if the rewarded people with free games, hats, shirts, whatever. ^_^
Yeahhhhh!!! 3rd AGAIN!!! whoo hooo lol i need to quit smoking, what ever happened to user content being sold through PSU did they drop that idea or are they secretly hiding this idea to surprise us with home hmmmm... i wonder n e ways Sony has to due something better or else they will be hit with another lawsuit lol
if they just do a simple achivement thing then its a copy but if they improve then it may be a good thing.
Okay now I hope really good and not some exaggeration
I wasn't impressed by the achievement feature initially. I'm not really interested in point totals. If Sony makes substantial improvements, I will become more interested.
MrFenwick: it would be EVEN AWESOMER if they rewarded you with PS Store credit instead of JUST points. I always thought achievments on the 360 gave you points you could redeem for games in the marketplace, but I was wrong. This would be a cool idea I think.
Cool. at last, hard-earn points and achievements has a meaning for.....
By all means its could be considered perfect but if its implementation is poor and w/out strong support from the community, then it will not surpass Live's solid position in online gaming. Sony should be able to take harsh criticism for home if it falls on some area's and listen for forumites like us on improving it in order to achieve a solid playing field with Home.
Awww...I hate the achievements. One thing I loved about Playstation 3 is the non-existance of achievements. If they implemented achievements, then we can forever say bye-bye to great things like cheat devices from Action Replay. Ya know? Things that made the game fun, not competitive.
yeah but if they copy microsoft I have a feeling MS would try to file a lawsuit with that intact, which is something I dont want happening to sony, n e ways....
@Uncool I couldn't agree more Home really relies soley on us..." the community gamers"... we need to push our activity in this app in order for it to be a huge success and help Sony relieve any problems that we may see fit in order to get the best out off home......
Don't you agree Gingo?? where ya at man.... you've been slacking lately you usually be one out of the ten by now lol....
For mre Achievements are the worst thing about Xbox Live. Seriously once people have maxed out a game or got most of the gamer points from it they move on to the next game just to up their score. Its sad and for me has harmed the online community for XBL. I find it difficult to find people palying Halo 3 or for that matter Gears now. Meanwhile I can always get a game of R:FOM, Motorstorm etc. because people play those games online because they're still worth playing because they are FUN and they merit having people play them.
Love the way sony listens to its consumers/fans
psn id: gingo.... i hope they implement a feature where after you get so many trophies/ achievement points you can get stuff and not just be there for show
it was a must, you see people dont want to logg in on home everytime they wanna know how their friends are doing, some kind of gamertag site should be made and tag u can use on forums sig etc
about time! woo :D
hmmh i like the news, but when does Home Come out?
Sounds great, rock out gaming world Sony!
My Idea
I think it would have been a great idea if u build a house from the games. Let's say u got Resistance 2, if u beat the game they provide you with some parts of a House. For you to get the house done, u need to buy another game where u have to beat it so u can get other parts of the house. what do u guys think?
They should make it so u can cash in your points for free stuff at the store
dude l i think youve guys have posted this information at least 3 times am i wrong???
anyway duh it will have more features thats why i laugh when people get all in a tizzy about the ps3 saying it dont have any features games blah blah blah because sony isnt the new kid on the block they know what they are doing they wouldnt try to realease a console going to stay on the market for at least the better part of a decade and not add new features games etc youve already seen a hint of the ps3s power in the first two years (resitance2, killzone) i mean come on people these guys know what they are doing they have a plan sometimes i think people think sony is gonna try to wing it for ten years lol have a little faith and yes i know your all impaitent but you cant rush greatness simple as that if you expect them to better their competition you have to give them time
This is not news
Whoopee. I'll get excited when I see it. I want to see "Home" first anyway, they can figure out the achievements as they go along.
Hopefully Home will come around soon.. A lot of games are going to need to be updated if there is a sort of point system.
I cant wait for home! the market for ps3 is looking bright in the future.
Sony made an excelent move
An over all points system is retarded. Why should I give a fiznuck what someone else scored playing 10 games I dont have? Unlockable items, extras, features, these are the only things that make any sense, I hope to god they arnt just listening to 36* achievment whores that dont realize their stupid gamer score brings NOTHING to gaming.
I already know that sony is always a ken listener to it's gamer's communty, so all they innovations we have always wanted will surely come to light.I believe the PSN HOME will be a huge break through in the history of video games.
yea eventually home will come out..eventually
man. honestly i like the psn is right know who cares about achievement points useless . sony please leave achievements out ., we dont want points.... all we want is please give us in game xmb ... that will kill xbox360 oh and let us record while playing on out eyetoy ... i mean the best thing about psn is lagg free community " we play games for fun not for points ...having achievement points is a suicide !
It's obvious they can do this reasons being because they are working on it :) and if it wasnt better then they just didnt overcome what they wanted but i know its going to probably match the xbl service or perhaps surpass it , very cool news.
Only the future will tell..
This just has to be the highest Comment per Minute I've seen on PSU.
enough talking about it, let us show us it, and by showing i mean a finish downloadable product. i'm tired of hearing what sony can do, show me what u did!
I've no interest in acheivements at all. There's nothing really new about them, since 'unlockables' (which is basically all they are) have been around in games since I can't remember when.
Supposedly they're an incentive to replay the game, but I rarely bother - once I've completed the game, I'm done with it, and I can't be asked plodding through it again just to unlock something which isn't usually that impressive anyway. In fact, in almost 30 years of gaming, I can probably count on one hand the number of games I've played through more than twice. The latest is Uncharted, which is superb - I'm on my fourth time through it.
GDC IS IN FRISCO?!?!?!? holy crap im like 20 minutes away!
Sony knows what gamers wwant. We just have to be patient. PSN will be great just like everything else Sony has put time and effort into.
Sony does have a lot of room to growwww...And that is a good thing. If they can make alot of awsome improvments to the point systme then it would be better. They also could add tons of new feature never seen on any other console. (such as home). as far as i know the PSN is already better then XBL.
sony's givin me a head ache there releasing so manything!! its like every day there's somthing new gahh soo muchstuff being piled into sonys game machines.. psp and ps3 latly that im like WOW give us a breather.. i mean with skyp and Warner changing and newline with other psp super upgrade stuff and ps3 stuffff and yeah CONFUZIN....... but YAY!! ^_^
This is great news and will push the replayability of their games much more!
All i need is a gamerscore and achievement points. let's hope Sony delivers.
this year we gonna kick xbox butt
sounds cool. but wait a minute, say they create acheivements for games that came out before home. like CoD 4, Resistance, etc. and you did something in that game that would be considered an acheivement, would you have to do it again? or would it just be automatically given to you? hmmm....
all in all achievments are a good thing for the replayability for casual and hardcore gamers a like, we need to understand that I know people here dont like the point system but some people do and you gotta remember people pay a lot for these games and parents want their money to last when buying kids games. If you dont care about the point system then what point to complain about it but tell me this.... If the point system was able to get free stuff off the PSN store would you care about it then???? AHH got ya thinking lol
Feel pretty sad for people paying 50$/year for something that should be free in the 1st place.
Thats what I said the points system should give you credit to the Playstation Store.
hopefully all these new features come out with HOME. But when?
Hey all. I think this can only be a good thing, if ya not bothered about em then its just there not harming ya and you wont care about ya points and carry on as normal. If you did then its there win win. I like the idea of awards to use on the store too other than just simple points but i dont think you should get that willy nilly. It should be high points landmarks and certain realy hard achievements.
I found on the 360 that i went on to complete games that i otherwise wouldnt but for the achievement points etc. Also the games lasted as i tried to cover everything in the achievement list to a degree.
Bring it on
Well I have to say this is exciting to think of the poss abilities though I don't know what these "programs" may be. All I can think of is Sony awarding players for achievements by giving us free downloads maybe or a certain percentage off of purchases in the PS Network Store and things like that. I guess we will see. This is one of the many reasons why I agree with you Keith. Competition is a good thing. Microsoft may be viewed as the evil Empire by many fan boys but I appreciate the many innovative things they have done with their next gen console especially in the online community. From the achievement points to the friends stuff its all very cool and entertaining. XBLArcade has also got the creative juices flowing. This article is why I like competition because it forces these companies to brainstorm and think of how they can not only do the same but do it better. Sony and Nintendo (Although Nintendo's focus isn't 100% into online stuff) have a chance to sit back and think of how they can incorporate these features into their strategy as well. I am glad Sony is being creative and not too copy cat. Now I just want to know when Home will be released so we can use all of this fun stuff.
probably all gona be related to home.
which in a way isn't bad, but nothing to exiting.
But still if home stays "mainly" free it is good
@bedsidelee: At least we know you enjoy paying $50 a year for something that should be free. Too bad you never realized it. Your favorite company must like having payed $1B for their screw-ups because they wanted to rush it out. By the way, how are your Red Rings?
---
I'm just glad we're getting to see some achievements in games. The only one I can think of that had this through the game was GTA with all the jumps and everything. I don't like having to go online and find out what I missed in the game. I want to know right then what I got and what I need.
Every ps3 feature has to(and does) surpass the 360,if Sony wants to be "Top Dog" again.
sony should implement more of a gamer profile like the 360 when ome comes out because right now the proflies are rubbish on the ps3
Sweetness. I'm waiting for the release of home to just open up a massive can off... gawdlyness! Wonder if they're holding onto ingame XMB, achivements and other great features to be packed into one massive update along with home... sigh, I would love that.
