PlayStation Eye pricing announced

Posted on October 11th, 2007 at 13:33 EDT

EyeToy offspring, the PlayStation Eye, has had its price and bundle packages announced.

Along with the (ominous sounding) Eye of Judgement package, the Eye will also be sold separately, like all good action figures. The Eye on it's own will set you back $39.99 USD (roughly £20 GBP), and the complete Eye of Judegment package is set to fetch $69.99 USD (about £35 GBP) from your local Video Game Store. Both are due out on October 23.

Here are some technical specifications from the Sony blog:

“[The] PlayStation Eye was engineered from the onset to perform well in low-light conditions. It also has a 2-setting zoom lens (normal and wide angle) with fixed focus...the PlayStation Eye gets a sharp, clear picture at 640 x 480 resolution at 60 frames per second (at 320 x 240 it looks even better at 120 fps)! It picks up image and motion in varying light conditions and doesn’t need your help to focus.”

It also has a fancy microphone that can not only pick up sound easily, but can also filter out the unwanted background. So no awkward shouting at the Eye then.

There will also be a free download of the EyeCreate Software, allowing you to do crazy things with recorded Eye video and then share it with your friends.

Stay tuned.

Nice i was thinking about $40.00 was the right price. Plus this isn't a crappy camera and mic  it is a filtered mic and a highly tested piece of hardware. Some headsets that work like this start at $70.00 anyways. The only thing is he game does not look promising so until a good game that uses a camera comes out, it wont buy it, or at least thats my thought.

The EyeToy sounds pretty fun. It also can capture at 120 fps, thats double the speed of normal movement. I think I'll buy it just to mess around with it.

The price will be different at the discount shops - so I suspect you'll be able to pick it up for a fairbit less anyway.
