Take a look at Mirror's Edge's upcoming demoSony has finally announced the long awaited television tuner and personal video recorder for PS3 at the Leipzig Games Convention 2007 press conference.
Titled "PlayTV," it will let you watch and record your favorite shows on your console completely independently of each other. It allows you to not only watch a recorded show by your DVR, but allows for the DVR to record something while you watch another show.
You'll be able to choose programs to keep on your hard drive by selecting them from a guide, as shown in the picture, and even control it using your PSP. If you are on the go, you can just stream the show to your PSP and that'll work too.
It will use the Digital Video Broadcasting as the standard, and be able to display both native high resolution and normal resolution videos depending on what type of TV you have.
Sony is very excited by this additional feature, that will not only expand the love of entertainment for gamers, but for nongamers as well. Nongamers will be able to make the PS3 truly the center of their entertainment experience.
"The introduction of PlayTV really will extend the already broad entertainment credentials of PS3, and makes it an exceptionally attractive proposition for the whole family," said David Reeves, big cheese of Sony Europe.
Currently there are no plans to bring a similar service to North America.

YES!! I'm definately getting this! The only question is how much?
looks cool but not a must have
the most amazing add-on available in the world
This is a must buy, go SONY!
Sony is the best! yaaaaaaaaaaaa. This is so sweet.
I dont understand what he means by a nongamer. Who buys a playstation 3 and doesn't play games
awwww yeah!!!! This is orgasmic
This is a deffinate buy!!!! I might even have to buy a PSP for this one!
AWESOME! now i can record more family guy.
Sad news is that they don't seem to mention the US in reference to this. I want it.
Humm..I like this but since PS3 is a 60GB how many HD shows/movies can I record?? still a great feature!!
Hm.. I would really like this one but I don't believe that it is possible. I have satellite tv with a HD-box (HDMI) which uses a tv card (to decode the channels). So it seems that this cool feature will not be for me. :/
hmm is this a add-on? i wonder how much.. i could finally record tv programs while playing games :D
Currently there are no plans to bring a similar service to North America. = Sadness for me.
this what i have ben wating for hopefuly it will be available sometimes in 08 or end of the year ! cant wait
Is it DVB-T or DVB-C? If it is DVB-T it's going to be crap in Belgium as there are only 2 TV-stations.
I hope i get this. whens the release date?
way to go sony, the PS3 will reign all.......
psn id: gingo... thisi s a fantastic add on for non gamers and gamers a like and should go down well depending on price
One question, will this only be able to record from a digital cable box or will it work for analog signals aswell?
Sony is really making progress quickly.

Sounds really cool, but honestly Sony, start selling the next Box Release of PS3 without a HDD and let us choose what size drive WE want. If the PS3 is to become a DVR and a HDTV DVR at that, we need 3-500gb HDs , even if DivX codecs are used.
$200 for PLAYTV is quite a Bargain and consider that Sony is active in its software updates !, as many DVD DVR and PVR manufacturers are NOT !
Checkout the Youtube.com vids on the Playtv... I'm certainly impressed, I'll have one ASAP please.
