Ratchet & Clank Future to focus on storyline

Posted on June 13th, 2007

The Ratchet & Clank franchise is profoundly known for its huge explosions, earth quaking detonations and notoriously fun weapons that allowed gamers to wreak havoc throughout its run of PlayStation 2 games.

However the new game for the PS3, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, has been approached at a new angle by the developers at Insomniac in an effort to further character development and plot line. Insomniac marketing director, Ryan Schneider, commented "Over the course of the PlayStation 2 games, we went down a path that started to prize the weaponry over the storyline" and continued by confirming that a key pillar of the franchise is a mystery adventure and that players should thus be able to “explore the universe and get wrapped up in the tale”

"It's a good story too - while Ratchet is slowly discovering details about the origin of his race, Clank is discovering spirituality - though more than that I really can't say at this point," Schneider added.

This suggests that we should expect to see more of the amusing cut scenes were all so fond of and whilst this is great to hear, we're hoping the destructive entertainment of the action will not be compensated for anything.
