Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has said that the slow loading times for graphics experienced on the region’s PlayStation Store yesterday were a result of increased traffic.
Speaking in a post on the official PS3 Forums, the company stated, "We are aware that many of you have experienced delays whilst the PS Store's thumbnail icons are being downloaded.”
"This is a temporary consequence of a new system implementation and high global traffic levels, and will be resolved within the next few days."
The revamped PlayStation Store launched yesterday and requires users to download the recently released Firmware 2.30 to access it.
Unfortunately, Sony Europe has opted for a questionable menu system for the store, which can be detailed in our earlier story here.

@eternal2006
Yea I know but in due course they should be fixes.
Hmmmm i can't really see that as a valued excuse, they should know roughly how many users will be downloading the firmware update, and compensate for the amount of traffic that will hit the servers.
Stores works fine for me, so meh. :/
Well thats a good reason for the icons i guess, but are you going to keep trying to get an answer from them about why the EU version is so crap compared to the US version
Makes we wonder what they will do to make Home a enjoyable experience from the start..
I hate to break it to you, but the images in the US store were loading slow as crap yesterday too. I sat there looking at it for a while, wondering if the blocks were supposed to be blank before they started to gradually load one by one.
This is why they released it on Tuesday. Any problems, they have a couple days to fix them. GJ on Sony's part.
My god, what's wrong with you people? You can't compensate for millions of people hitting the same digital information at the same time, period. Why can't you guys get that? You complain about a new game's online play, don't you know that EVERYONE ELSE who bought it is trying to play too. I remember this with COD4 2 weeks after it came out, NO ONE knew it was going to be that good, and the servers went kuput. So they added more until, TAA DAA, CHRISTMAS! (When a ton of noobs got the game) and then the servers went kaput again. So let me prepare all you slow peopl ethat still haven't put it together:
Tommorrow when people try to DL the MGS4 Beta...chaos

GTA4's online content? This year's top selling game?! Good luck with that. Just enjoy the offline.

Home? Just talk to you friends with in-game XMB, cause you ain't gettin' in there on a Saturday afternoon with all the other dorks that don't play Saturday softball.
Upgrade to fiber and/or get over it.
You muppets, its not a problem, its simply loads of big hits, what do you expect? And for saying that Sony are incapable of releasing anything that works first time is just cr8p. My PS3 worked as soon as i got it out the box, the PSN worked first time, al my games have worked first time, all the updates have worked first time. So stop your wineing and buy a 360 ring of death.
I cant be stuffed typing #9 posters name - so "to the guy above at post #9" - Sony should have figured out what was needed to support a pretty small user base hitting their site and catered for it. Its got less users than the competition so they should be able to deal with it. The problem is they dont seem to have a clue what they are doing and dont seem to have allocated enough money & resources to do the job properly. I dont expect to be impressed by Home when it finally gets off the ground either. I'd really like to see Sony get their sh.it together sometime soon.
Fix it already, takes like 10 min to get all the images to work
SCEE, you guys are beginning to piss me off further. First, we had terrible content while our Yankie cousins had the best stuff on offer. As with Japan too. And now you give us a great Store, with faults. And where is the DualShock 3? Japan and America only?!
Seriously people chill the F*** out. Let them fix the problem. And yes I can see why there was a slow down. Everyone and their mom has been accesing it causeing some slow down. They will fix it. We live in a on demand society that now expects everything instantly. If we paid for the PSN then I could understand being upset.
when are we getting the in-game xmb god dam it!!!!!!!
Why are some people making such a big deal about this, it's a new update....that's just the system working out the glitches.
the us store was not slow it was pretty fast for me.
@eternal2006
sony may release something that may not work perfectly at first but at least they fix it.
They don't slack off and offer a 3 year warrentie to fix the error. (bad spelling I know)
Told you it would be fine.
PSN: DarkJ3JB
ha ha yep.. but it's lot better than 1st store :D
Also, why aren't the images cached? If you leave and come back, you have to reload everything again.
People were so quick to judge the store as soon as it released. I love it. It's smooth and runs way faster.
If the browser is anything like a PC browser (which I'm 99.99% certain it is), this is normal and you should know it. SInce they updated the graphics/images that means that the browser cannot use the cached images from before so everytime a user access it it will have to get the new images thus adding a big overhead. This is normal and the reason it will be resolved in the next few days is because most people will have the new images cached in a few days.
Please don't bash someone without first thinking and understanding why things happen. We should be greatfull we got the new layout we were longing for.
I don't understand why people complain all the time, if you think about the reason why the images take awhile to load is becuase the Store is cross referencing whats on your HDD and what available in the store and it has to load those red bags that indicate that you have already downloaded that item. Besides I have 2 PS3's running on my network and the store takes approx 10 secs to come up with images and all and both systems are running at the same time so get off of DSL and switch to cable with a 7MB download speed, that should your probems.
I wonder if it would of been better if all the generic icons and most recent icons could of been stored on the Hard Drive instead of having to download them every time you visit the store, that would certainly speed things up.
I love the new store.
Cache the friggin icons damnit. :(
And I bet people are going to b!tch when it takes 72 hours to download Home. No fvcking sh!t it's going to be slow. Almost everyone is getting on at the same time. That COULD be why the PS Store is slow everytime it gets updates. Dumb bastards.
See, that's whats wrong with you young bucks today. You cry to much like little girls. You don't show class!!! Sony makes it a fact to to telling you what is going on and how they are going to take care of it. The new outlook on the psn store has very nice taste of class like fine wine (some of you wouldnt know anything about that cause you are clueless) and they are working hard to bring you the best system. Now, don't get me wrong I want the ingame XMB and HOME and all the good games, but it comes with time. We are apart of something big now. I went to planetxbox360.com to see if the was talking about anything. and people dont even show support or post like we do on here. Sony is the real deal. Be proud of that.
psn id: I95SOUTH <-- King of all kings
It is kinda slow
At least it works. unlike when xbox live gets high traffic it stops working lol. it amazes me how much xbox live sucks.
