@The Mask - because the PS3 wasn't designed around "faceplates"...if they introduced it now it would mean taking the console apart...
when all is said and done i like my PS3 in black....looks good and fits in well with the Black HDTV...if i could be bothered upgrading my 360 to an Elite it would get rid of the eyesore of that bright white box...

I wonder why Sony doesn't release the PS3 in different colors in America. It's like Sony is giving Japan special treatment or something.... but when I think about it, things in Japan are always akwardly colored and are full of color (green payphones, etc...)
I would like Sony to release a Dark Red or Dark Blue PS3 in the U.S.

I love my piano black 80GB PS3. It matches beautifully along side of my piano black 46 inch Sharp Aquos 1080p LCD.
