The Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification have banned Soldier of Fortune: Pay Back from being sold in the country.
All versions of the game will be illegal to sell in Australia due to the game being rated above MA15+. The game passed up this rating by featuring "close range shooting with substantial blood spray, blood spatters to the ground and walls, and the ability to target various limbs which can result in dismemberment."
Soldier of Fortune is just one of the many games to be banned in Australia this year, the most recent and notable has been Manhunt. Activision has not made any announcements yet as to whether they will be changing the game, or if they will keep it as it is.
Be sure to check back for more details.

wow, already............................
Banning it because of blood splatter?Way to give freedom to the consumer./sarcasm
Great, just great! Another one bites the dust!!! Looks like imports will be the way to go! What's next? Ummmm...I only played a demo version of The Darkness and I guess monster heads shooting straight through peoples body is not too graphik!?!
This game should most likely also be banned in many european countries, so for all those who would like to have the game...I suggest that you import it from the US for two main reasons;
1. It should come out there atleast a week earlier than anywhere else.
2. You'll save atleast $20 after importing it from the US at they're over priced anywhere else in the world!!
Plus, it should play on PAL region PS3's...shouldn't it????
lol, they better not ban it in europe
Damn.. i live in Australia and its stupid that we dont have an R+ rating for games.. but i guess thats the way it goes. No matter, I'll import from the UK no problem :) Still, pretty harsh rating just because you can blow off limbs.. that was in the original SOF and blood splatter has always been realistic so i dunno what they're going on about.
To be honest the soldier of fortune franchise has never been that big, its a great series of games and is tremendous fun but im not that suprised it was given to a budget studio. I do hope they work their a**es off and make this a good one though.
Sorry Activision for this ban, nevertheless I will be playing this game because I am a fan of fps.
Insert generic anti-censorship/ban arguement here. Its obvious these rating boards will never listen to consumers. Apparently we are in no position to judge what we can or can not handle
BTW I am getting sick of the many posts I have to type for these censorship news stories since they are getting more common nowadays. So this will be my standard comment for all censorship articles.
Yup...gay!
wow, gamers have it rough in Australia. I do find it ironic that a country founded by prisoners is banning a violent video game, though.
psn id: gingo.... lol banned because it got over age 15 and i thought uk was bad for being pussies when it comes to games
FU#K sall i have to say
