It is going on four years now that the PlayStation Portable has been available on the market, and it appears Sony is finally taking some steps to flesh out its portable gaming device in the form of a specialised keyboard accessory.
For years now, third party companies have endeavoured to release a keyboard for the PSP to help expand and facilitate various features, such as surfing the Internet. However, like many third party attempts, nearly none came close to perfecting it.
Enter Sony, finally coming to the conclusion that they need to release a first party keyboard for the handheld to help gamers out when it comes to typing on the PSP, which can take quite some time. They offered no details about the keyboard or what it will look like, other than they are creating the device, which will be released in mid 2009 - five years after the release of the system.
"We're looking at several designs, but can't tell you anything more specific," a company representative stated.
Hopefully we can get the keyboard a bit earlier, but if not, perhaps we could catch an early glimpse of it at CES 2009?

2009? Really? Why has it taken this long to get a friggin keyboard for the PSP? It should have been offered as an accessory when it first came out.... 5+ years is just ridiculous. And I thought Sony was slow with the PS3...
the point of a PSP keyboard is what? I mean, do you really want a keyboard on your PSP. I believe its too Impractical; I mean why would you need it?
How hard can it be? I used to have an Ericson t68 phone which came with a very small qwerty keyboard to use when texting. That was 7 years ago maybe more.

A keyboard would be nice but I bet it will end up being for the new "slim" psp's. Just like Skype.
They had a keyboard design when they lanched the PSP years ago but they never bothered to do anything with it. granted it's probably wasnt a working one and it sat above the screen so it would have been really awkward to use but they should have made abetter attempt to get ones of those out long ago.
