this already seems to be the biggest news and E3 and i dont know what could top it. a frilly FF7 remake isn't even comparable to the loss of exclusivity of a brand new game on the scale of 13......

Sony this year is down and everything is going to both system.

Well I still plan on getting it for PS3 when released but Sony and SE from the beginning obviously had a deal for PS3 only and this just feels like a spit in the face for Sony and FF fans. I understand that SE in a trying to run a business and make money, but if they had a deal with Sony then they should just keep it regardless of how much money MS waved in their faces. I'm really not feeling the luv for SE right now. Oh well, guess this is the reality for 3rd party exclusives from now on.

Just out of curiosity, what would you guys said if it came down to one or the other. Would you rather give up MGS4 or Final Fantasy 13? I think that MS was bound to get one or the other. It became pretty clear when Sony went on and on about MGS4, but said nothing about FF13.

i dont know about u guys but im really pi$$ed. This along with Metal Gear Solid 4 were the only reasons why i bought my PS3. Name me 5 triple A games that Sony has exclusivly. GTA4, DMC4, RE5, Guitar Hero, and now FFXIII all went to M$!!! What does the PS3 have that M$ doesnt?! Sure we have RFM2 and KZ2 but im sick of FPS games. Where is the love Sony? I bought my PS3 as soon as it came out. Was I wrong...?

I remember a time when this hobby was so on the fringe, you got laughed at for playing as an adult.  Now they think this junk is subject matter for movies, and couples with no children play together.   But with that mainstream penetration came the real business end.  Sure, Commodore, Atari, and of course the big "N" were always in it for the bucks, but how cutthroat the business has gotten is just astounding to see in real time.  If you are my age (33), we actually saw it come to be.  Now, I posted this sentiment a long while ago about how big business was choking the life out of the industry, killing everything that was fun about it.  You knuckle-draggers just brushed me off, but how did you feel when you found out about FF13?  You know that feeling you felt on the back of your tounge that made you rush to a forum to give you 2 cents?  How many times have you felt that over the last 2 years.  How about the 10 years before that.  Not fun.

I cited that 80% of video games were crap.  Licensed movie and comic book crap to seel to children.  AND IT SOLD.  Madden took a dent last year (13%), but EA got away with releasing the same game from 2001 to 2006 (and to an extent, 2007).  What did you fanboys do about that.  NOthing.  Or worse, you bought it. 

We had next-gen consoles costing $250-$600!  The $250 one was just a rehash with an innovative controller. 

Western Gamer tastes came to destroy all that is concole.  The Japanese RPG is all but killed by western RPGs like Oblivion.  AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS!  Through it all, everybody lost perspective  Big companies, developers, publishers and FANS.  Especially the fans.  You let it all happen and didn't fight with your dollars (except waiting to get a PS3, but let's face it, people didn't wait to get a PS3 out of principal, the waited because they just didn't have the money). 

Sony screwed this whole thing up one day one.  They did it all for Blu-Ray, but I don't think they would say it was worth it.  I've loved their products and vision, but they do not understand their consumers and they paid for it with market share they had no business losing.  If I was SE (or anyone else MS paid off), I would have done the same thing.  If Sony inspired the brand loyalty in their customers that they assumed they had, none of this would have happened.  Instead, they came into this generation screwing Developers (all that crap with the dev kits), Customers ( NO games lined up),  and ultimately, themselves.  I got rid of my other console after Halo 3 came out, because back then, I thought it was going to be the 'FPS machine".  MS LISTENED to that.  THEY WERE CLUELESS TO THE FACT THAT FPS WEREN'T EVERYTHING, SO THEY CHANGED.  Sony was one step behind.  They still are.  Anyway, it's clear that if I want to play the variety of games I THOUGHT I was going to get on the PS3, I need to get another "other console".  I cannot believe how bad Sony screwed this up.  I just can't believe it. 
 

i figured square enix was going to go multiplat with the final fantasy franchise eventually but i thought it would be after the nova crystalis trilogy of games :P

At least its not going to be on the xbox exclusively, but im kinda interested now with how the game will turn out technicly speaking. If this was planned when they started deving does it mean that the game wont be as good as it could have been due to having to restrict it so the 360 will run it the same?  Though if this wasnt fully planned from the start im now really doubt ing the whole, the ps3 can run thiungs the 360 can t  argument.  though im guessing the whole more people will get to experience the godlyness that is final fantasy is always a good thing.

oh yeah and i wonder how many discs the 360 version will need, its fairly safe to say the game is gonna be pretty huge.

Wow. I can't F_cking believe this. They were the only video game company I was interested in buying games from anymore. This is honestly just un-f_cking-believable. They lied to us guys. They sold out to Microsoft, and never again will we be able to get a decent game because we aren't getting any exclusives any more. If they do this for KH3 and Versus XII, I'm not buying them. why so gutted a game that will not see the lights of day till 2010 in the us or europe, and that trailer was almost identical to the e3 06 trailer its not got much new, perosnally square enix are a company who have been pushing mince games recently and so dont be suprised if this game doesnt turn out to be as a good as the hype, oh yeah forgot to mention its still exclusive in japan on ps3

Also, in a press conference afterwards, Square Enix said that development on the Xbox 360 version would not start until they have finished the PS3 version. There were also hints that it will ship on multiple discs for the Xbox, so it can still take full advantage of Blu-Ray.

yeah i watched the conference live, when i saw that, i was so filled with rage i nearly popped.

Now i own both the 360 and PS3, and i was genuinely happy with the MS conference, until that point.

First, the Parasite Eve sequal is to be a japanese cellphone exclusive, Second the Star Ocean game is to be exlcusive on 360, and thirdly The Last Remnant getting a timed 360 exclusivity.

Ive been so sick of Squenix's b*** s*** since ffX2, ill buy Star Ocean and Infinite Undiscovery but only because theyre made by tri-Ace, a company i still have eons of respect for, but as for the rest of Squenix, they go go f*** their own eye sockets for the remainder of their lifespan. Im so sick of their s*** its rediculous.

Makes you wonder what the [expletive] is going on in the Sony offices. How could they let this happen? It just seems unpatriotic to allow a game like FFXIII to appear on another console other than Sony's. Like "DINAMO788" said, this will most likely be the BIGGEST announcement of E3 as no matter what Sony has up its sleeve it won't compare to this news. Outside of getting a day and date release of Gears of War 2, MS gets the win for this year's E3. I think we already know about every big announcement Sony is going to make. It's just a matter of them making it. I don't think ANYONE really saw the FFXIII deal coming (and my guess is Sony didn't see it coming either or didn't have enough time to stop it).

I think this pretty much vindicates everything I've said regarding SE's actions over the past few months.  Everything said about them has been justified.

Big deal, This isn't the biggest news of E3, wait until Sony pulls out Kratos and the God of War 3 trailer kicks the crap outta FF13.

What's next?  Kingdom Hearts 3 to the Wii?  Only two ps3 games left that I want now are White Knight Chronicles and Final Fantasy versus XIII.  Slim pickings.

@Imperium....compare the sales of God of War and Final Fantasy...it is a big deal.  God of War has sold a little over 3 million copies.  Final Fantasy X sold around 8 million copies.  God of War II sold a little over 2 million copies, FFXII sold over 5 million copies.

This sucks... BUT it's 10x better than LOSING FFXIII OUTRIGHT. "Exclusive to the Xbox 360" would be a true nightmare scenerio.

i was upset when i watched and saw the trialer i just knew this was going to happen. But i realize that Sony will still be making money since they are suppose be 20% stakeholders in SquareEnix. Tomorrow the world will be watching to see what Sony will be showing. Home better be there as well as GOW3, as well as a possible price drop. Price drop would keep PS3 in the running for to spot.

This doesnt bother me in the least, at one point i probably would have been blind with rage over this, but i honestly dont care.

At least we all still get to play the game, at the end of the day for the consumer, all exclusives serve as is bragging rights so that gamers can beat thier chests over who is the superiour nerd through what thier console has as exclusives.

I prefer the ps3 as a system and aslong as the game performs aswell on ps3 as it does on 360 i dont care one bit.

Well if it's only FFXIII that lost exclusivity than I don't mind at all. FFXIII looks like a trash game anyways, I am only looking forward to FFXIII Versus as the next big RPG.

Well for my point of view I am more concerned about if the game will go like the other multiplatform games (DMC4 etc.). And I will just think how the game could have been if SE only focused on one console ...

the only way to get back on top is to reduce ps3 price meaning pricecut and also remaking ff7 exclusive to ps3. All I know is for now there is no way the ps3 and sony will be on top for this console war. Its over for them. THey are the nintendo 64 of this era. Here is an example when the 64 came out it had a lot of exclusives and it was a decent machine. Then sony came and the exclusive started to jump ship because of many reason. Little by little 64 lost most of its exclusives and just had its on games mario mario party smash brothers that was not enough to keep it on top. This is sony now I hate to say it but I will get a 360 soon like this week

Quite frankly, I've had time to get used to the idea..and I am first and foremost a Final Fantasy fanboy (Not a Sony fanboy). So I am ok with this. At least I still get to play this brilliant looking game and it will still live up to the PS3's potential because it is being developed on it.

i don't know why this is either a big announcement or a suprise. it wasn't but a few months ago that SE mention going cross-platform with FF series. so the writing was already on the wall so to speak. i still believe that the ps3 platform will be the primary console that gets developed for and the quality of the series will not suffer for us.

OMG Final fantasy on 360!!!!!! I am terribly disappointed with SE.Well MS played their role and things worked out just fine for them.Sony really has to do some thing regarding their exclusive titles.This can't continue to go on.I mean ps3 fans have very few to boast of at the moment.And just as it has been with the previous multiplat form games I won't be surprised if ffxii looks better on the 360.

Infact sony's studios have a lot of work to do.Unfortunaetly sony can't rely only on its studios to make games for their comsoles.As for exclusive titles i think sony really has to forget about the third party developpers.This was my worst news of the day.

 I think Microsoft has done it this generation, they said they would have the games, and they did it. Never thought it would happen, but things cant go forever. Congrats to Microsoft. Now I can get both consoles and stop worrying about the console war. As long as I get good game from both sides. I will be happy. But was very upset when I heard this move. Its all good though. 

Well this is a big blow to sony. Its been said but it seems like sony just isnt listening. Although I would never buy what looks like such a crappy game I will be buying FF Versus XIII and as long as that stays a PS3 exclusive I will be happy. I really hope M$ is losing alot of money with paying off these developers, seriously not too many ppl even play RPG's on the XBOX 360 as it is was it really worth it to make this for M$ and PS3 do they really think ppl are going to choose XBOX just for that? I'm thinking this generation is pretty much a wash. The 360 is crap but the game companies would rather get as much money as possible than to actually make anything better. I guess the days of truly awe-inspiring gaming experiences are over, since no one actually wants to make anything that truly pushes the envelope.

Not a big deal, MGS was the main exclusive, and besides the final fantasy creator said in an interview that the PS3 was to difficult and that he dislikes it. i read it in gamepro or wasit egm, dont remember.

their (MS) presentation was so utterly scripted, it was like watching talkng robots present the new stuff for Xbox 360. I almost fell asleep, wasn't even paying attention for half of it. Man what a snore fest up until that last moment.

Wait, why are so many people thinking of defecting to the other side because of this piece of news? IT' STILL COMING TO THE PS3 and will probably be the superior version seeing as they will finish work on it before even starting on the 360 version. They will be simultaneously localizing the PS3 version while developing the 360 version, which screams rushed port for the 360 to me (unless they keep people waiting over a year for an English language version.) Chill out people.

Well people, always remember this. We'll always have the 1st party exclusives. Like GT5, God of War 3, Killzone 2, etc. M$ is just trying to get all the 3rd party developers to also jump on their side because they know that's all they got. In 2 and a half years square enix hasnt used enough memory to go past a dvd for the 360.  I doubt that.  They should release a single 50 gb blu ray game for the ps3 and 10  5 gb dvds for the 360.  This way the game will still be as good as a ps3 exclusive and everyone will be happy.  well except for loading 10 seperate disk lol.

 I've ever been a huge SE fan, but even tho i have both systems I can't get out of my head SE lied to us, yeah yeah that's business lolSonyFanboy whatever. I'm not against multiplat games, I'm against developers only caring for the profit 90% of the time, the age when they thought of quality or pushing the standards higher seems long gone. Kojima productions and Konami earned my respect probably for life, they cared about making the best product they can make instead of the profits, but in this age where people only care about money this way of thinking can't survive.

Sadly we all have to wait to see what Sony have in store for us (even thought i don't know if they can beat FF13 going multiplat). But I remember SE saying they wanted to give each console the same amount of their time, I thought Star Ocean (one of m y favorites) going exclusive and the timed exclusive LR were their way of balancing FF13 and Versus 13 being exclusive on PS3, apparently I was wrong (maybe SE breaks SO4 as a exclusive to keep "balance").

I always played both versions of games I played, and they were quite similar (not including the Orange Box) and reading both systems specs I wanted a full time PS3 exclusive to see what all the PS3 power could do, then came MGS4 (imho probably the best game out there, pushing the standards very very high) and as I finished MGS4 I began to think is there where any game who could reach or surpass MGS4 before 2012, then I remembered FF13, it doesn't matter what people tell you I'm a mayor in software development when you design a software (or videogame) you can't use all of a platform's power because some things can't be done on other platforms plus a few other reasons, now I have lost all faith that FF13 can equal MGS4 (hope is on Versus 13 now).

I needed to speak my mind, I'm not against 360 or MS, but I hate the way they do things (RRoD it's a mistake I will never forget because MS didn't design their systems well enough).

I had SE very high in my standards because they always thought of quality and nothing else when they made games, now things have changed very sad for me SE has changed and I don't like their new vision (I will called it Money Makes Right? who knows).

The end is nigh for sony's grossly over-priced ps3 and its very meager game selection. I'm not a FF person, but I do recognize defeat when I see it coming down the road. It's simply a matter of time before my ps3 investment turns to utterly useless garbage, thanks to m$. Iv'e said it before and I'll continue to say it til my dying day: m$ will do absolutely ANYTHING to keep JRPGs off the ps3, and so far they have. Not only that, but whatever they can't stop from happening, they have to "jump in" just to keep the ps3 from thriving.

And I will also predict that between them and ea, they will singlehandedly bring about another video game industry crash. Then again, I also blame sony for trading off their gaming platform support for the high-def disc market.

Sony said that they are not worried since they believe that more and more games are naturally going multi-platform. So my question is: when the fsck will we get Halo? I don't want to play the game, just want to piss of the 360 guys!!

I'm sweet with it as long as the Xbox 360 version has three to four disc's so that the game will remain to be 40-50Gb. If it doesn't, then I will be annoyed yes.

Words cannot describe the anger and frustration I'm feeling right now. Heck, I almost broke my Vaio(running on XP) right now. I agree with Shamurai7 - ever since M$ step in; the game industry has become a rather sh!ty place, if you ask me. Damn and I thought M$ was done for at the beginning year and now they pull out this sly trick - it's like throwing sand in your face.

MAYBE THIS WAS PLANED BY SONY AND SQUARE ENIX ?

Just imagine, both ps3 and x360 get FFXIII and the PS3 version would be better (frame rate, resolution, better textures due to DB, exclusive levels or characters, ...)

So they would show the world that the biggest series ever is better on the PS3, so many people (kiddies) would thing that PS3 is better and they would buy it.

this world is corrupted by money, where people will buy everything just for the sake of having it. Microsoft is a company with no moral obligations when it comes to software or anything else for that matter. They throw money at franchises and expect them to crack over the money. FF going multi-plat doesn't bother me.

I think all great games should be played by everyone regardless of the console they invested in. What I do despise however, is the way situations like this are used as a tool of war by the likes of MS. This is gaming people....not a flaming war. You are supposed to enjoy the experience and not heap on negativity in what should be a positive situation. MS, you really really need to look at how you perceive gaming...your stance is fanboyism at its worst. Grow up.

The one thing I have to laugh at however is the fact that it supposedly is being treated as an install-game. Meaning 360 owners must install a chunk of it to play. So, what about the 360 basic package that has no HDD? MS have truly failed to deliver a fair deal to the gamers regardless what coneole they buy. They have always been negative in their publicity campaigns about the PS3's price & additions that were supposedly not needed, and yet as it turns out they were.....every single bit of it.

At any rate (ignoring MS's failures to deliver) this will have no impact on existing FF fans, although it may prove an enticement for new gamers to buy a 360. It certainly will not lose the PS3 any existing FF fans and we must all bear in mind that although this move provides MS a brighter future in their gaming genre's it will not extend the life span of the 360, which is quickly running out. Although whether or not new gamers will think of the future of the console before they buy one is another matter altogether.

I know Final Fantasy started on Nintendo, but I have always related to it being a Playstation title since first getting FFVII on Playstation years ago. I have to say that that I am crushed over this news. Silent Hill Res Evil, Ace Combat & DMC not being exclusive is disapointing - I didnt xcare about GTA, but I always thought we would have MGS & FF as our own. Those games should be sacred. I'll still buy it but I feel really let down by both Square Enix and Sony. I never thought things would fall this low. Everyone has their favourite title but to me FF was probably the soul of Playstation.

I don't hate Microsoft, and I don't hate the 360. They are simply doing what they need to do to survive and thrive in the gaming world.

I am very disappointed with Sony though. I said to myself this generation that I'd buy one console and only one console, and because FF is my favourite gaming series, I chose the system it would be on, which at the time, was exclusive to Sony.

Had I known then, that FF would soon go to 360 as well, I probably would have thought a whole lot longer about which console to purchase, because the fact is, the Xbox 360 is this gen's RPG console, and RPG games are my favourite genre of game. Sony has absolutely nothing on the 360 in terms of RPG's now, because anything that Sony has I could get on the 360 as well, plus there are awesome-looking RPG's that I CAN'T get on the PS3, that I could get on the 360 (Infinite Undiscovery, Mass Effect series, Star Ocean 4, etc)

The whole reason I bought my PS3 was for FFXIII. Now, I look at my PS3, and I think: Well, that's $1000 down the drain, when I could have had the cheaper 360, still had the games I wanted + even more.

I think this game going multi-platform is a very good thing for gamers, it means now everyone can enjoy the game. I just feel duped by Sony, because when I bought their console, I was under the impression that this game was staying on PS3, and that to play it, I would need to buy one. That theory has now been proven false, and the whole purpose of my shiny black console seems completely irrelevant.

Anyway. as long as quality doesn't suffer, good news all-round. I just wish this announcement was made before I bought my PS3, so I could've given the 360 a bit more thought. Regardless though, I'll still get to play FFXIII, and that's the main thing.

Because they've seriously lost their minds and the support of 3rd party support.  Sony is being more frugal (read: stingy) than most middle class americans right now.

The PS3 has lost nothing here. FF13 is not going to be less of a game because of this decision. All this means is that the 360 has gained a great game, which should mean nothing to those that own a PS3.

If you have an issue with the PS3 sharing a game with another platform, then you really need to sit down and reconsider why you play games.

Again, the PS3 loses nothing. Just because one system gains, doesn't mean another loses. God people, get out of this negative thinking & be happy that many people with a 360 have a chance to see why people love the FF series so much. Maybe some 360 owners were getting dis-illusioned with the 360 library, so be happy that they now have something else that justifies their purchase.

All this moaning does nothing but give fanboys satisfaction by rubbing your faces in the fact that a PS3 exclusive has gone multi-plat. And if this makes you feel like you ( or the PS3) is losing something, then those fanboys really do win at your expense.

Are you seriously deluded? Explain to me how FF13 will be watered down, considering it has already been designed around the PS3 and has had so much worl already completed on it? How s the PS3 version worse for this decision to go multi-plat. You tell me to get out of a fantasy world, yet your comments are delusional in respect to this game.

There is a big difference between designing a game around PC/360 architecture & then porting it to the PS3, and designing a game around the PS3 architecture & then porting it to PC/360. Show me an iota of evidence that would suggest FF13 will be watered down.

The big difference between FF13 & GTA is the fact that GTA was always going to be multi-plat and was designed from the beginning to be such. FF13 was not. So if anything, the 360 version may be less than the PS3 version....unless of course SE had this planned all along.
