Afro Samurai confirmed for European releaseGerman-based videogame site Gamefront has revealed a subtle move on Sony's part, reporting that the company has recently filed a patent on what seems to be a new PlayStation brand icon/logo.
The patent was placed in the Japanese patent offices, though Sony has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the new icon/logo or its purpose. Currently everything is pure speculation; however, a tenable theory is that Sony may be using this icon to coincide with a future event(s) or possibly a new ad campaign.
The icon, shown here, depicts the trademark X, O, SQUARE, and TRIANGLE text surrounding a huge orb, seems that have stirred much interest and debate to its actual meaning. However with Sony yet to announce anything official, we’d advise you not to jump to any conclusions just yet.

Hmm it does look a bit "wierd", only if the symbols and stuff were somewhat rounded and 3d and colored then that might work.
That logo is dumb. Who cares about this! Where is DTS-HD Master Audio decoding and In Game XMB! Thats the news people wan't to see!

If the Japanese patent office is anything like the US trademark office, then your logo has to be submitted in a plain black and white form, with color information added in a side paragraph. This logo may look quite different in full color, or it is possible that this is a design for a sign shaped like a globe for use at conventions or whatever.

It looks like they are making it look more like the 360 logo......which sucks as well. I swear, there must have been a huge quota for idiots in there advertising departments cause they sure are stupid over there.

Why waste time fixing a logo that is not broke? No one is complaining about the current PlayStation logo - infact it's very recognisable and everyone knows what it stands for.
A completely new logo like this will just confuse everyone. - Get it together Sony. Dont waste time & money on this crap - just put the resources to work building Home & making great Games.
