Sony unveils the PS3 in India

Posted on November 25th, 2007 at 04:16 EDT

Taking the world by storm is Sony’s prime goal with the PlayStation brand. They did it with both the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, so why not with the PlayStation 3 and PSP? If Sony is looking to dominate this generation of gaming, they must look at every market that is suitable to carry such machine, so how does India sound?

In Mumbai, India, Sony Computer Entertainment of India (SCEI) has revealed the all new 40GB PS3 along with the PSP 2000 (also known as PSP-Slim) for the first time in India.  In conjunction with this, Sony brought out variety of titles including the PSP Spider-man and Simpsons specialty pack and three new PS3 games. This all came during the launch of the two-day PlayStation Expo, which launched Saturday.

"Gaming is becoming increasingly accepted form of entertainment amongst Indian consumers and society. We perceive this as an ideal time to expose Indian youth to the complete spread of entertainment that is possible with PlayStation", he said.

People should also know that the PlayStation brand accumulates 60% of the virtual gaming industry market in India; this is according to Jayant Sharma, Milestone Interactive Software chairman. Outside of gaming, India is becoming a huge role-player in the world economy, as well as becoming more and more industrialized. So if Sony can win over India with the PS3, then this could be a great seed for not only the PS3, but future PlayStation products in this region.

PSU.com..........................your writers have horrible reading capabilities .Did you even read the source article properly before posting your article? It says the 40 gb model has been unvelied not that the "ps3 has been unveiled in india".Sony india has been selling ps3 (60 gb model) since like march.

And secondly, you misread the 60% market share comment  .What they are saying is that within the indian gaming industry, playstation brand accounts for 60% of the market share.

sony were foolish not to release in india at the same time as europe, whilst indias poverty stricken lower classes maybe as poor as ever it has a booming middle class, whom are very excited about embraceing modern western culture a hug part of which is electronic enterteinment! india will be a key in the development of any success to be enjoyed by sony, within 20 years india and china will be the new americas, and within 40 years theyll have there equivillent of pompous ex film stars running for congress, what a joke!
