Soul Calibur IV to contain new gameplay feature

Posted on August 1st, 2007 at 14:06 EDT

The latest game in the Soul Caliber series will be getting a new addition that is sure to make fans of the game either jump for joy or scream in anger.

Lead programmer Masaaki Hoshino told OPM in their latest issue that they will be adding a new gameplay element to Soul Caliber IV that will allow players to kill their opponent in a single hit, regardless of the amount of life they have in their health bar.

Unfortunately, this is all the information Hoshino released about the new element. Could instant kills come in the form of weapon-breaks? Speculation will just have to continue for now, including how players will be able to execute these new one-shot kills.

This is horrible news for Soul Calibur IV. Namco is just asking for power gamers to find out a way to perform this without it being blocked. I hope that this is only a consideration for the moment.

if u dodge a mortal attack, u should be able to do a mortal blow on your oponend while he is recovering from your dodge, it would be nice, player a dodges MA from player b, then player a apply MA on player b, player b dodges and try MA on player a, O>O

As long as they're really hard to pull off, I won't mind. I'm sure they'll balance it correctly.

this is kind of what i want in fight nite or the new ufc game, one punch KO. no 8 counts no srambling to lock up, just bring in the stretcher.

I doubt they would make it easy for a one shot kill, you probably have to do some crazy combo, or they will make something for it to be really hard to do. But if you can do it in time, you will kill them, thats pretty sweet

LOL Soul Calibur is being programed by the Guilty Gear people? I remember the first time I played the original guilty gear and killed someone for the first time for 2 rounds instantly with one move. I didnt even have the instructions fo the game and I was owning people in 10 seconds. But all that's changed now, I doubt they'd put the moves in SC without some form of block of evasion move to counter it just like the unblockables you can't defend it but you can probably see it coming from a mile out.

WTF, weak! Soul Calibur on Dreamcast was my favorite game. I think it is the greatest fighting game of all time. 2 and 3 were ok too but the first one was a classic hands down. One shot kill in a fighting game is weak, please don't kill this game with some BS. Any true calibur player knows about the 5 rounds, infinite time = true battle!

Old post, but Squaresoft made fighting games Bushido Blade 1 and 2 with 1 hit kills, it could have been done better, but it wasnt "bad".
